Till recently, the most sought after careers for the youth of the country in BPOs & Call Centres are no longer a passionate choice for Urban Youths due to uncertainties in job security, coupled with stringent working conditions and increasing switching over to newer promising areas of other industries like hospitality and retail. So what are your views on this...

Is BPO still at the hot seat in India??

According to me yes BPO is still at hot seat in India, where still outsourcing is coming in, but then due to financial crisis, the outsourcing happening is low but still companies need to cut cost and for that outsourcing should happen and BPO has a long way to go for it, it can't be just written off. so to me still the youth's are attracted to the BPO industry and is a major contributor for the country's economy...

Yes i agree with Umesh on this, but then the worse situation that has emerged for call centres and BPOs are that in a view to reduction in operating revenue margin, where there is stiff competition within BPOs, call centres and due to this BPOs are cutting their costs and the impact of it  is falling directly on salary packages and facilities for it's employees, Which is negative impact to the BPO which will lead to the shortage of manpower in the BPO industry.

No i don't agree with Sujoy, The BPO sector which is already encountering 25 to 30% attrition rate may face the toughest challenge of managing with 30 to 40% shortages of trained manpower in the next two years. Other industries like Aviation, hospitality and retail sectors which are coming in a big way to the country  are also currently experiencing shortages of workforce to an extent of 25-30%.  This phenomenon has created abundant opportunities for urban youths in the identified sectors. so BPO is not the hot seat in India at the moment..
