Prateek can you mention some product on which we need to debate.

I will give my opinion based on mobile phones. I would prefer a branded phone with less features because it give me satisfaction. And the product life is good. In non branded products we can't get the quality which is the most important aspect for a product.....

well surely majority of the consumers will go for a branded products.and i feel majority of the ppl will stick to less branded product jus coz they dont hav much purchasing power.usually less branded products are cheaper as compared to branded 1s not becoz they are not carrying huge advertising and marketing charges on their back but there quality is inferior as compared to those branded products.

Brands are what we go with because they build their reputation over a period of time and there's surety of certain quality standards on the features even though they may be less in number.

I agree to Sheetal , that the branded products with limited features would be a pick in lieu of an unbranded multi feature product. The reason for the same is relaibility towards the brand and satisfaction and longitivity, re sale value and of cource quality of what ever services are available in the branded product. Network of the branded products would help me get the seemless servises and same feeling across when I come across their outlets in a bigger geography where in for un branded probably the out let which sold might have said no warranty once you move out of my premices.

Definitely , when it is brand it charges for it's good will but at the same time we should understand in all manufacturers and distributors in business are for profits and revenues not for charity and if something is with a low cost than probably there would have been a compromise in the quality of components used , raw material.Yes, we pay for goodwill, and once a brand charges for goodwill, always keeps in mind that it has to maintain this goodwill so quality compromise would be out of question. No brands are like stalls at a railway station neither you are a regular brand loyal for them nor they expect you to stay with them as they lack identity in the first place, who is to be appreciated or criticized??? Name is must ...

What matters is the quality of features as perceived by the customers. Strong Brands are strong as their features are proven and perecived positively by the customers, Non-Brands, although they may have more features, first need to prove those features positively over a period of time. Thus, Branded products, even with lesser features have a better Brand value

brand name is a kind of satisfaction for a customer and every customer wants to be satisfied by the product for which he pays for example a nokia cell gives more satisfaction then a chiness phone which provides multifeatures in low price but the customer go for nokia thats the main thing so brand rules every where in market

As a business person, should be well aware that a product should be placed with a distributor/dealer who attracts people and enthusiastic in marketing the product to the remote places also. It the product reaches the hands of a customer, he is practices with the brand and he may be addict or practices with the brand in their next generation also.

In today's scenario and fast moving  world its all about Marketing. The more strategically we market and advertise ,the more rife is the image of the product .

Cosmetics are the quintessential for this ,being marketed by top personalities and ambassadors for the same leaves a dent in a burlesque's mind and if taking middleman  in account he/she wants to spend the hard earned money for a product that is world famous and many are aware of it and its characteristics.

A branded product with less features can not be compared with a branded product with a multi features. In my country, People buy products with name.A case study of a detergent market like Omo and bonux. They are both branded product in nigeria. From my understanding of the product bonux has more features than Omo but Omo is an household name. People still prefer to buy Omo than Bonux compare to when a product is not branded

before going into the arguement i wud lyk to say tht any product become branded only coz of huge support of people satisfaction and then through positive word of mouth it became Branded product. as per this case i think Less featured branded product is better than multi featured product. because atleast in branded product u can get some warranty n guranteee whereas in Un-branded product u can get only more featured without any warranty or huarantteee...for some of case if they will giv both (warranty n guarantee)..then people will nt satisfied coz of less support of consumer in market.

Sellers stress more to sell branded than non-branded because of "saleability" & quick-turnover of the branded product. Buyers will be shy to try non-branded because they don't have previous usage-experience or aware of "advertise" of the manufacturer. As such, branded though less featured perform better.

If you allow a non branded multi featured product on any shelf and if it begins to gain market share then, it becomes a brand any way, people will give it a name and an identity anyways. But by the same inference, if you do that job of creating Identity and keeping that promise well, then yes your small un-featured but branded product has a longer life cycle than the unbranded and multi featured product. However, the real question is can we multi feature something without creating a brand? I think not

Consumer confidence is in the branded product because it ensures quality. There would be very less complaints and even if there is a complaint, consumer can expect proper and prompt repair or replacement since the manufacturer is cautious about brand name and good will.

Sheetal is to the point on her views on the branded product. First a product should be a brand which means it has earned the confidence of the consumers.

As of now there may be some non branded product which may be good in quality but the brand will have to earn the confidence of the consumer by their deeds which may take some time.

No. Let us understand what is the brand and how it is evolved. The brand creates awareness about its quality, durability, serviceability during the period of its presence in the market.Similarly is the case with the newly launched products. The consumer primarily buys it for features, price, application sand if the product conforms to standard specifications,it will also establish as a brand.

Lets understand tht we R a growing economy now and there would be more and more products coming from companies which we may call 'unbranded'.

It is upto us to to help them to grow to and come to position where people would call them branded. And moreover they are doing their best by providing better and more facilities we just have to support them and respond to their efforts. And all this in our own good as more brands would ensure more competition and more better products.

pratik its correct but now in market many non branded mobile launches which is multi functional & cheaper ,compare to branded one.life period is approx the same ,so while going for branded with less featured ,people definetly atracted towards the multi fomctional non brabded product .service center should be available in each area definitely atract every one to choose for it with this going (mehngai).so better make cost cheaper or produce all function in one branded cell .

on an individual level the answers will be very subjective, but if we look at this issue from a broader perspective, there are many facets to this debate. for the common indian who is mesmerized by the look & feel of the branded mobiles yet gets petrified at seeing the price tag, feature-rich phones at low cost are very lucrative. even among the youth who are considered trend setters for various product categories, low cost - feature rich handsets are in. so my inference is that less featured branded phones are catering to niche audiences & will be confined there, but the masses swing the other way.

Branding is value-addition to product. Brand is more than product. Brand equity consits of Image, Awareness and Loyalty that focus on long-term relationship with customer which is not possible with product. It is fact that Brading is a competetive-advantage to product.

As per me its true but not always. It varies as per the current scenarios.Though at some extent this is true that having a branded product with less features is more reliable and more satisfactory than having a non branded product with more features. But if this is true always what about the China "Use & Throw" policy. In India most of the population is Price conscious rather than Brand or Affinity conscious. Thats why people are more inclined towards local market, where they get cheaper products rather than malls and other branded shops. As per the people they will not get Value for Money if they purchase products from branded shops. Bacause as per them, they can get the same design and same look (though not same quality) from the local market.

It depends upon the buyer's choice, his financial capability, knowledge about the product & his importance on spending the money on the specific product.

For eg: A person being an illiterate tries to buy a laptop for his grown up son, so obviously he don't have a knowledge about the features, brand value of the specific product & also the importance of using the same. he will prefer hcl co's laptop which is basically a laptop in the range of 35k with 1gb graphic card & will not prefer a dell's laptop having a budget of 45k with a 1gb graphic card as it is costly so why a person will spend 10k more & this qualifies a consumer thinking to buy a laptop within a less range with the same configuration.

To draw a line of comparison in between the hcl & dell laptop every co's laptop has it's uniqueness but, still a person who is buying laptop prefer's one with value for money & also performance oriented product.

To cut a story cum statement into short & sweet is branded with less features is not ruling the chart as it depends on the consumer qualities. (Buying Power, Choice & technical know-how).
