This is the irony of today's brand. Brand was formed so that a product could be differentiated in terms of quality/service/pricing. In present day , majority of FMCG branding is less emphasis on quality differentiation of the inherent product. For example if you take the product moisturiser, more emphasis is made on package than on the acutual product. Packaging has taken precedence in many product category as its the factor that plays a vital part in the 'look-&-feel' experience of a product. Branding is positioning of a product in terms of - Quality level.
- Service level.
- Pricing level.
Brand is a single indication of all the above mentioned product in customer recollection. Based on this a customer may set his/her preference level for a brand.

Dear Vikash, Half of the answer lies in your own statement when you say "branding a product". That makes product the core of activity. Since it is product that brings the customer connectivity the answer is obvious. A quality product bears within itself the strength to become a known brand with or without advertising.

Branding is important, but its existance should NOT TRY to super exceed what the product stands for or how good the product actually is. The hype it creates will very soon go sore as the buyres are intelligent than ever before and do see beyond branding in how the product helps them. A classic example is Apple products. When you have a solid product, branding enhances the mind recall to swing buyers decision in its favor aginst competition.

Brand only helps to identify the product but quality packaging,price,distribution etc will play a key role.

Thanks NAMRTA for the refral,If your product is constantly of good quality ,durablity it must be sold without brand.Because consistantly good quality will give you self recognation and people will come searching through mouth publicity.
