Is car sales the barometer of economic growth

Certainly,we can not say that car sales contributes to economic growth. It may be an attributing factor. What I mean is that, it is not ,directly, inducing the consumer to buy cars .But, indirectly, envying people to possess car to elevate social status. Moreover, there are other factors that facilitates purchase of cars such as, easy installment by car companies, easy loans by financial institution, easy availability,and substantial salary hike to govt employees etc are the few to mention.We can say, that the market strategy is designed / helping individuals to buy cars.

It is generally seen in statics given by economists where increase in car sales is seen as growth in economy specially in Indian context, which is a false misnomer. Overall health of Industry should be the rightful criteria. It should be seen whether purchasing power of people is increasing.
