Security vs Manageability is a call to take before taking the dive into Cloud Computing. Because it has not been time-tested on security front does not make it insecure. Also, security requirements differ from organization to organization and is based on the results of a formal Risk Assessment and Analysis. If reasonable security is sufficient for most of the data in an organization, why not opt to take these apps to the cloud?

Safe, but as compared to what? everytime you bring some changes in your infra, you need to re-run your security checklist. and fix what's new threat. In case you are thinking cloud will just replace your current infra with no efforts. no. Clouds brings may advantages, but few disadvantages also.

In term Data Security is very selfish word... In many pratical cases, without having any security threat, people are scaring of having security breach... Data are important in financial sectors, secret Govt. functionalities and like that arraound... For that extensive amount of securities have been implemented... Cloud can be reasonable solution for intranet and extranet... So, viewing the part of the usage for cloud, they will have full control over the data what to expose in public and what not to... Cloud computing is having different kind of flavour where two unknown sources are ingrated with easier accesible exposed services... it's not about changing information it's about sharing information without bothering about other's infrastructure...

Data security is dependant on the people, equipment and it's maintainence. If the people responsible for managing servers is efficient and ethical, the infrastucture based on latest technology, then the data will remain secure, whether on inhouse network or on a cloud. Cloud computing is just more convenient.

From security side, cloud computing has lot of problems. So, in spite of giving so much facilities, it is not secured. Thus its not safe...

The cloud is vulnerable to attacks and data on the cloud is not secure. In a recent research paper published my MIT the cloud is vulnerable to "side-channel" attacks -- A side-channel attacker looks at indirect information related to the computer—the electromagnetic emanations from screens or keyboards, for example—to determine what is going on in the machine. Researchers were able to pinpoint the physical server used by programs running on the EC2 cloud and then extract small amounts of data from these programs, by placing their own software there and launching a side-channel attack. Security experts say the attacks developed by the researchers are minor, but they believe side-channel techniques could lead to more serious problems for cloud computing.

Cloud Computing indeed has very positive sides in usage. But unfortunately, from security side, it is not yet secured....

no as G mail as all the back up facilities to take care of the data security and even you have an option, were you can export all the data as a file

I don't think cloud computing is safe. There are many secuirity issues associated with it. At the heart of cloud infrastructure is this idea of multi-tenancy and decoupling between specific hardware resources and applications. In the jungle of multi-tenant data, one needs to trust the cloud provider that your information will not be exposed.
For their part, companies need to be vigilant, An important measure of security often overlooked by companies is how much downtime a cloud service provider experiences. Exception monitoring systems is another important area which companies should ask their service providers about.
An important consideration for cloud service customers, is to find out about the hosting company used by the provider and if possible seek an independent audit of their security status.
