i dont think there will be an effective replacement material in the near future. Ofcouese we will see a lot of changes in terms of improvemnts in the existing products combined with new technologies and innovations. May be we will see such type of concrete which will make concrete elements thinner and lighter. Thanks Pragya for inviting

Hi Sahu, amazing debate.

I think people will go for alternative material like Carbon cement, wooden, steel, etc.... because normal cement add more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. So nowadays people are going green so we are looking for some new material that can replace concrete.

:)

It is a good process in construction industry. Other methods will hardly find application to replace, especially in roofing of any building structures.Concrete is the best technology to bear the wait and all over the buildings.

I dont know wht is meant by future. As for near future no other material is as effective as concrete at concrete's price.

Yes Concrete is going to stay as the same was proved for its performance century’s back and is made from abundantly available raw materials. Even if the technologies and alternatives are sprouting in the market these cannot really replace concrete, as they all have many limitations when compared to concrete..

YES CONCRETE IS GOING TO STAY FOR YEARS TO COME.

ONLY SOME MATERIAL LIKE GLASS POWDER & SILICA WILL BE USED AS

ADMIXTURE TO ENHANCE IT'S PERFORMANCE.

CONCRETE HAS IT'S JOURNEY FROM THE PAST CENTURIES (17/18 TH

CENTURY). YES IN SOME AREAS MIXTURE OF DIFFERENT MATERIAL CAN BE

USED, BUT FOR INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS LIKE DAM, BRIDGE

CONCRETE CAN'T  BE REPLACED.

It is a fact that we are experiencing huge research works in the field of construction materials, but from the point of view of the convenience, ease of use and price, it is obvious that concrete will definitely rule the construction material industry.

Some background.

1 In western countries (USA,UK etc),in those towns where population is less and space more, wood/Board is used for houses of 3-4 storied. These r used due to locally available construction material plus their weather condition, local condition plus ease of repair ability etc.

2 In those countries, multi-storied buildings, in Populated towns, are made out of Cement & steel.

3 Construction of all heavy load bearing structures are made of Concrete and Steel.

So the inference is

Concrete will be used for decades for all multi-storied and heavy load bearing structures. However, this will get replaced by Wood for low hight dwelling units where Population is not a big issue. In India concrete will continue to rule.

Concrete would stay another some 1 to 2 centuries. The reachers are  very busy to find the alternate material for concrete. Even though concrete will stay because its physical properties (durability, compressive strength etc..) and the availability of basic material (lime, sand, metal etc...)

Lets Face it ,Its a versatile material and concrete is here to stay for a long time.

With strengths as high as 80Mpa-100Mpa,outstanding resistance to explosion and/or impact, desigin possibility and shape as concrete seeks the form.

With cement production capacities increasing in manifolds, Little awareness about alternatives the change i think it may not haappen in near future.

Good topic for Debate!Mr.Sahu.

Concrete is certainly going to be replaced...maybe we will see something like glass-crete,where in glass will be reinforced and used for structural framing.Or may be there can be a possibility of nylon,or high tension/compression plastic being used for making a paste and casting structural framing.

An abstract thought.....may be we will go back to mud buildings ..with lime.

Steel structures and composit materials will replace concrete. Seismisity of the locations will mainly be definitive on the acceleration of mentioned replacement.

i agree with Pragya. The alternative material to the prevailing one will replace it sooner or later.
