India which is a cricket crazy nation, where there are so many idols in cricket whom youngsters look upto, and cricket matches happening all round the year, which was why advertisers used this platform to promote their products and recently advertisers platform has some what changed towards the reality shows, where there is more viewership and higher TRPs, so what do you think is cricket still the best platform for advertisers or not? what are your views on this.

I said Yes, but i really wanted to say yes and no. Yes because cricket is still the largest viewed sport in the country but no because if you have a product that appeals to more than just males then you need to widen your horizon. Tennis, Golf and chess are also high profile today and not to mention shuttle because of the exploits of Sania Nehwal. All this would further undergo a change if NBA happens big time in India. As it is NBA is looking at starting coaching centres all over india and if that happens slam dunks will be order of the day and your product will be dunked if you dont put your money in basketball.

The other major sport waiting in the horizon is Formula one racing. If india is successfrul in launching itself onto the formula one map, then i think media spend on cricket would reduce to about 30% of the overall budget.

So one has to wait and watch the sporting scene as it unfolds in the coming days before tying up your money on anything concrete. Eaasier way out would be not to get into any long term deals in cricket

I deem that this questions also obvious and so many advertisements are based on sports. In India it is purely based on cricket platform and players. From soft drinks to shaving products cricket players are involved. Hence, in India cricket is the rigid and healthy platform for marketing and advertisement.

According to me yes, as India with population over 1 billion which does only one thing at a same time that is to watch cricket, so yes it is still the best platform for advertisers. I may be wrong here with all those reality shows taking place and with cricket ad slot rates getting higher and higher all the time, but then cricket rules in India and every rupee is worth which is spent on it according to me...

No cricket is not the best platform as Amit has suggested there, as Test cricket has no more audience these days as one can make out with the empty stands that you see in the television, as cricket is evolving with the T20 all over and IPL that has caught, there is very less viewership that is there for test matches and one dayers, so cricket is not the best platform for advertiser anymore, there is football interms of EPL that is catching up like anything in India where there is Higher no. of TRPs when a top notch club like Man U, chelsea or liverpool is playing and this is happening all round the year.

I can't agree with Amit on this as cricket is still the best platform for advertisers, there are so many other best platforms that are there for advertisers like the daily soaps which nobody can't replace and the News channels, being from a news channel , people want to be updated every minute so they go for news channels and this is the best platform for the advertisers, and then the reality shows that are taking center stage with higher and higher TRPs and viewership which is there for them and for over a period of a time, but in the case of cricket people watch cricket more than the ads that come at that point of time. It was only in the case of IPL that cricket had higher TRPs with all that glitz and glamour.
