Please don't start comparing Corporates and Government. If your argument is correct, recrutiment of CEO is a better process than the democratic set up of government. Histroy has shown us how worse certain CEOs can be!! If your proposed solution is that few individuals (like in a corporate) nominate a government, I am sorry to say, it will be the worst ever solution. The roots of democracy start at the Panchayat (village) level, and the entire concept from panchayat level to the union government level is a wonderful vision envisaged by very wise personalities. It takes lots of years for this democratic set up to mature....may be few generations!!!

Those who argue against Democracy should be able to suggest an alternative. I agree with Sarika that not all the people are voting, and event those who are voting may not do it keeping country's interests above his own. But, what is the alternative? IAS, IPS and other so called intellectuals too have their own agenda, and it is not right that they can replace the political system. It is easier to point out all negatives of democracy, like short term, unstable, etc. For a moment think about alternatives....rule by kings, rule by a dictator, rule by military, etc. They have bigger & more dangerous consequences!!! Democracy, by itself, is a very good system. It is only the evolutionary process that makes democracy matured. As the time passes by, as people go through experiences, as certain good political leaders set examples, democratic rule becomes more meaningful and more fruitful. Finally, no system is perfect, it is only a compromise for a better one. Undoubtedly, democracy is the best!!!

Of course it is. People should be given right to chose their leader. They should be given the right to make the rules and regulations for the country. An independent country means where everybody can think, do and decide independently. So why not the right to chose their leader. People are intelligent enough to know what is good and what is bad for them and who can be the best person to take proper care of them. If he is not proper, they can even remove his from his position. i.e, in democracy, public has got the power.,..

Definitely, democracy is the best way. But its shameful because of the way democracy is maligned in India by politicians. We really do not have choice to choose our leader. As mentioned by Sarika, only 20% of people make the government. What about rest 80%? Will you call this a democracy?
Yet as I said it is the best option, the following few corrections are needed.
1) An minimum education level of candidate to contest election... A Masters degree MUST. Depending on specialization portfolios must be allocated to elected candidates 2) Compulsory voting: Exercising vote must be linked with incentives/benefits. A voter must get a card with table specifying polling held during his lifetime - updated at the time of every voting - government facilities/benefits will ONLY be given if he did voting for more than 75/80% of times. Immediate penalties - No gas/electricity/telephone/mobile connection, no ration, no clearance for any project, no concessions in child education/no admission in schools/colleges, medical benefits, vehicle registration, flat/house/land registration, bank account opening/closing, no single document to be given till next election etc...etc... 3) Only two political parties - No small/regional/independent parties - either candidate is in support or in opposition 4) Exceptions for unable to vote must be justified but penalized in some monetary/other way proportionate to income-tax paid, property held, business/wages, business worth etc. 5) No close relatives allowed to contest in parallel and for at least two subsequent elections (Relatives - son, daughter, wife, brother, sister, father, mother, father/mother-in-law, brother/sister-in-law, first cousins from mother/father side etc) Politics must not be made a family owned business.
There are many more thoughts which may remain thought only... and this will continue as usual... thanks for reading,

We should never confuse independence with democracy..... in democracy the form of government selection and the way in which the power is distributed is totally ill logical.... taking a simple example, does an employee gets the right to choose the CEO.... i believe never.... the leader of any organization be it a company or a country can never be selected just based on the likes and dislikes of people who don't even know, for what they are selecting that person. Power should be distributed to people who have proved to possess the abilit to handle it, be it from any sector of the society.....but never by giving the right to some fool to select another bunch of fools....

Democracy is not at all an intelligent form of government. In democracy, everyone is given chance to vote. Even illiterates, ignorants, mentally challenged, arrogant and also those people who think only about themselves. How can we make a proper government with this kind of people? How can these people, who think what is only good for them make a proper government for a country? In any elections, a man votes to that person who will take care of his interests. i.e, he thinks about him first and about the country later. Not only that, in India, out of 150 crore people, actually, only 20% people vote. How can we consider their decisions as the whole country's choice. Because of this, we have so many problems in India today since we lack proper leader. I believe, the intellectual class like IAS,IPS,CBI etc and other honest officials who think only for the country should be given the chance to chose a proper leader and he should be independent (Though after discussing with intellectual people) to take his decisions and think only about the country. That will be the best government...
