Yes to me, the dial up is dead as broadband and wireless internet is gaining momentum, one can make out that the dial up will see its end in the coming days and the dial up is seen only where there is no proper broadband and wireless connections.

For the start ups and not-very computer savy in general public, the 'Dial-up' internet access through their phone line is the simplest utility.

Seen dialup still used for basic data communication for oil , gas, even self cleaning car places, where all you need is a creadit card. Since dialup is still at 26k, its still fast enought for millions of applications. back until a couple years back every pc automatically had a modem installed.....

In a country like India, in terms of availability there are some places in the country that are still unable to get dial up but the percentage of coverage area is around 98%, there is a greater number of places in the country that cannot access broadband, wireless or ISDN, so in my view dial up is not dead yet.

it is also the most affordable solution, ranging from $4.99 and up, and is available world wide, where other services like T1's are too expensive and some times non existant.

I still see scores of americans refusing to pay out the nose just to connect to the net for email purposes and low web usage. Dialup will be used as well as a backup if possible in most cases. I feel dialup is not dead, not just yet.....
