There was a time when diesel engine used to make a lot of noise, now u cannot spot a difference. there has been a lot development in the diesel engine and its still going on. with the kind of mileage this cars are giving anyone wud opt for it. highest mileage a petrol car gives is around 22, but i have driven cars like Ford fiesta, optra, verna, logan which have equal or more mileage than almost all the petrol cars, and u can't even tell if it is diesel

Yes I believe that diesel cars is an alternative in place of petrol cars as there are lot many diesel cars which gives a mileage of 20 to 22 kmpl where as a petrol car gives mileage of 10-13 kmpl. So a petrol cars running cost comes to around 6 to 7 rs/ km whereas a diesel car's running cost comes to around 2 rs/ Km. SO in such an inflationary regime where petrol is priced at 67rs/LT which is even more the Air Turbine fuel (ATF) which is priced at 62 RS./ LT which is used by aeroplanes.

With continuous improvements & innovations in the field of turbo supercharging, fuel injection systems (CRDi/EFi), engine management system etc., there has been a remarkable improvement in performance & reliability of diesel engines. Time is not far off when diesels will take over petrol..

NO, i have been using diesel car since last 10 years now. It will be only worth while buying a diesel mill if your travelling is more than 1200kms a month. Other wise buy LPG/CNG varients. Petrol car are already fetching lower resale value. So if you have a petrol car you can easily convert it into CNG.

Whether to chose diesel car or petrol car depends mainly on the following points:- 1. Average run per month- If your run is more than the 2000 km per month then the you can go for the diesel car otherwise you should go for petro car. Since the difference of the cost of petrol car and diesel car should be set off by running the car by saving in the differnce in the petrol and diesel price. 2.How long you should have a car- If you have to keep the car atleast more than 2 years then it is beneficial to have a diesel car subject to fullfillment of condition no. 1 as above. 3.If you are in a service where the petro is available as allowance i.e. bank employee than you have to purchase only petrol car since in diesel car you have to bear mainteancne charge more than the petrol car.

Thanks,Mridula. Besides, maintenance, it adds pollution. The average comparing Petrol will be less due to its calorific value and flash point.

Never. Demand influence a major part of the fuels in the international market. The more we demand , the more price will be.

Generrally fuel price was increased to develop new greener alternative technologies instead of fossil fuels. Even Indian govermennt has rised the excise duty forthe imported auto auncillaries like assembled engines, gearboxes and so on from 10% to 30%.. Everything is made to develop new technologies in automobile and energy industries and to make domestic market in to bigger by manufacturing in India itself instead of importing.

If you compare operating cost then yes it can be a solution but diesel engines tend to be costly in initial and maintenance cost point of view in the long run.

Maintenance is the main concern for diesl car, hence if consider all things such as price + servicing etc, then petrol car is better than diesl car. Thanks for referral, Mridula.

As Mr.Ram Rao said, my answer is NO.Both Pertrol and Diesel prices are being revised many times in a year, so Diesel car is not an answer. Govt. has to take steps in Research for Bio-Diesels obtained from Plants and seeds like Jatropha, Pongama etc.. We have to minimize the usage of Petrol and diesel, can use Bi-Cycles atleast once in a month for Office, as a GREEN DAY.

My answer is a strong NO !!! Mankind needs to stop using non-renewable fossil-fuel, the byproducts of rotting dinosaur flesh. The answer to increasing petrol prices is a change over to electric cars. Cars such as the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt, Tesla Roadster, Th!nk City, Malone TAZR, Mitsubishi i MiEV, Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-ZERO.

Hello, In Europe, diesel has a strong appeal but it does not solve the core problem : our huge dependency on oil. In addition to that, diesel production is limited. As a consequence, price of diesel will reach petrol price in the mid term.

Neither YES nor NO! What's the guarantee that the diesel prices won't skyrocket? The Government has failed to regulate both the usage and the price. Sometimes, they are favouring private players for political sustenance. None of the PSUs are functioning as per the international standards set. It is now difficult for them to take the corrective course of action, as they lack political will. This inflationary trend is only filling the coffers of the States, and not the oil companies, per se!
