Is dividing country into smaller states is correct?

In India we seen the instances where bigger states are sub divided in to smaller states like jharkand, uttaranchal, like such.  Many people and politicians too figthing now for their own states according to their regional habits.  The best example is Telangana Issue where the regional people want to separate from Andhra pradesh and want a new state for them.  Is this is correct.  If we are go on dividing the country where we land at last.  For what purpose if its done is good?  ultimately who gain and who loose and what will be the macro economic effect?  please share your views.

what i feel is that local parochial interests having ambitions to capture power, are inciting communal feelings, misguiding people to claim for separate statehood to have better deal for their lot, which is pure hypocrisy and against national interests. People need to understand on what basis are they asking for division? What good are they going to get out of it? Here the politician who are meant to be for the welfare of public are not concentrating on development of the country or state but instead calling for separate states and the reason being-political interest. It is high time, things are falling apart Jago India Jago or this 'unity in diversity' thing would just be a farce...

i donot feel that dividing the states is the right option...i believe india is know for its vivid cultures and traditions which is different for every state. even within the states there are various districts and villages which have there own cultures...if one literally goes into dividing states purely based on this fact then imagine the number of states we would have and various political issues that would tag along...things would get complicated n managing so many different states would be difficult....i think division of states is a bad idea and it would hamper indias development

absoulately right, If Govt is serious about the development of all states of the country & all areas of the state, then this time of demands never arise.

yes what u say is really true.  really politicians who never concentrate on the development issues behaving with out any sense for a separate state is shame.  perfect implementation of policy and liberal rules and dexterous communication systems will lead to development of a state but not the division.  At last it requries commitmment from the leaders and people who are self drivers for development.  It is too sad as an Indian our fellow people behaves like politicians often depending on sentiments.

the division is only for corupt politicians who would be benefited from forming new states, We the people have to shred more taxes to help them live in LUXURY. Secondly tomorrow there would request back on cards for States on sentiment on the grounds of religion and caste also... WE ALL SHOULD FIGHT FOR COMMON LIFE UNDER THE HOOD OF INDIA. 1st of all there must be problem of  communication  and also divide means its creating a more number of group which is  first stage  of conflict.this division will force people  for destructive work only .

IN my view we are strong when we unite.  when there is unity at micro level the same will reflect at Macro level too.  Go on dividing where will be the unity in diversity. Dividing the resources of the country will have bad results.  Economically also large scale of economies can be achieved when people are unite. The cooperative movement we saw in indian agriculture sector is the best example that we win when we are together.   Hence in my view the country should not divided into smaller states the country should be one as it is in the past and should fight against the evil in the system for its own development for which government should devise a policy and should have a vision.
