Interesting debate, employees are not allowed to work according to their own ideas in many organizations. The boss tries to impose his idea into the employees and asks them to work. This reduce the growth of the organization because working for other point of view is a difficult task. And the employees are not able to perform well even though they are talented....

So the organizations should start listening to their employees ideas and should allow them to implement if it is good.....

Definitely, that's the different between innovative and non innovative companies. If employees are able to pursue their idea, which can benefit the company, then bosses should not interfere. Its better to allow skilled employees are performs according to their wishes.

Yes. employees have the full rght to perform according to their Idea. Today we talk about creative thinking. This is how creative thinking can be developed. If we talk about talent management we can identify the real talent if we give space for this idea. It is extremely important for an employee to unlish themselves and discover new ideas and possibilities for doing the best in their job.

THANK YOU MEHUL.

ANY EMPLOYEE IRRESPECTIVE OF AGE,EXPERIENCE AND SERVICE IN THE ORGANISATION HAS A RIGHT TO PERFORM ACCORDING TO HIS IDEAS,AS LONG AS IT IS IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE ORGANISATION OR THE OTHER WAY ROUND, NOT DETRIMENTAL TO THE ORGANISATION.EVERY ONE BE GIVEN A CHANCE TO EXPRESS HIS VIEWS AND IT SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED WHETHER RIGHT OR WRONG.THIS ATTITUDE OF SENIOR PERSONNEL ENCOURAGES JUNIORS TO TAKE MORE INITIATIVE AND OFFER VARIOUS SUGGESTIONS,PAVING THE WAY FOR GROWTH OF THE ORGANISATION.THIS WILL BRING OUT MORE PERFORMERS AND MORE LEADERS.

In an organisation where the superior-subordinate relationship is maintained in perfect harmony and balance, the idea of employees performing actions as per their ideas will be appreciated. Corrective action, in case of errors, shall be done without much ado! However, if the situation is reverse, then the employee will have to face the music, as he is asked to toe the dictum of the bosses only!

Employees have the right to do activities as per their idea. However, where there is a conflict of opinion, it is implied that the superior officer has the right of way as he is aware of the big picture for the organization and there must be additional reasons for preferring a different opinion. Additionally, the key issue here is accountability. Only one person is accountable for a specific role. In order to fulfill that role, the leader decides what needs to be done. The team can disagree but the leader takes the final call as the risk and onus for accountability vests with the leader......

Being Boss someone is able to look into the bigger picture hence he must be in the best position to decide how to proceed, once Boss decides what needs to be done, onus is on employee to do the job with whatever innovation he want to apply. Most of the times employee does not have the whole business scenario in mind and still they challenge the boss. Neither employee wants to understand business nor Boss wants to explain. The answer to this debate lies in one question, Why every employee behaves like his Boss when he or she becomes Boss. It is not your Boss's attitude but his responsibilities and business requirements asking him to take control of employees work culture. I have spent 7+ years in Semiconductor Product development companies and i have never experienced that my boss is illogical any time. and when i thought he is he proved me wrong. Regards, Amit

There is always room for innovation until and unless the interests of the organisation are taken care of.  One should understand that there are certain set guidelines for any company to function.  Me in sales, would understand that there are certain boundaries that i can operate.  Beyond that would be my boss or any other concerned authority.  In an age of multitasking, guidelines from the boss would be to that extent of completing the job (target).  How to go further from there and get things done is the smartness of the team member.

It is as simple as everybody has a car and are driving on the highway.  The speeds of diffenrent cars vary depending upon the confidence, urgency and the need of the hour.  Its the same in a working envirionment.  How you finish the job (without any harm to the interests of the company or the client) is more important.  Innovation is always appreciated in any setup.  The days of Boss is always right is gone to a certain extent now.  I also understand that this is not the scenario with all of you (looking into the arguments above), but a successful boss/leader/manager is the one who lets his team think individually and give them enough space to perform, helping them with his ideas and experience.

In every company there are people seeking to influence legislation(ideas) of their immediate bosses so that they can impress and get away without any trouble, when their performances are analysed, but these bosses don't realise, this very act is the cause for the downward trend of the company they work.If a boss wants to influence, let him influence vision of the company and ask each worker to come up with a unique method by which company can make profits.

yes within the framework of company vision and values and goals, nurturing, empowering and enabling people to perform would unleash enthusiasm and creativity leading to performance ownership placing faith and value on people potentials leading to harnessing self-fulfillment for institutional excellence leading to experimentation, innovation, employee engagement and retention, a win-win game.

what people need is the moral support and guidance of the boss and not close supervision underestimating their potentials, with tolerance for mistakes leading to orgnisational learning. good leaders are confident of themselves as well as their team members and with their mentoring/coaching/inspirational skills develop the competencies of people and thus are able to allow people to perform on their own being available when needed and taking the moral blame if it comes to that.

close supervision develops a bureaucratic mediocre organisation with low morale, low speed, high costs, and overall underperformance moving towards extinction someday.

leaders delegate and focus on superordinate goals of the organisation and forward organisation planning - not getting bogged down in petty details, finding fault, politicking even with juniors to retain their position, firing people all the while, losing people and personal managerial credibility in the long run, a lose/lose game.

It is said "Nobody can stop an idea whose time has come".So its not important that somebody has right to follow it or not.If its worth, whole world is going to follow it.This is assuming that you are talking about a new idea.

If you mean to discuss that an employee should use his ingenuity in his operations rather than following his Boss's rules I think he very well should ! provided he is able to convince his Boss of superiority of his way of doing things and let everybody else follow it.

I fully support Darshana. The employees forced to work in the views of boss and as per old set of rules particularly in Government and public sectors. In private companies, it again depends upon the boss only. The employees with inquisitive mind miss match with the boss and mostly leave the company while the sycophants remain for their personal gain, which ultimately stagnates the growth.

Not all of the time. Many times there are rules and regulations that must be followed in the majority of businesses. If too many employees start operating according to their own concepts & ideas, that could be bad for business. There are exceptions to many rules such as: if it is understood between top management and selected employees that some or all employees can make certain decisions or work in a way that is different from the others.

For many companies, if an employee has permission from their boss then they could implement some changes or new ideas. If one employee starts to act out on his/ her own according to their own will, then soon, a lot more employees will want to do the same thing. It all just depends on the type of business and working environment.

Hello Mehul, Good question. it all depends on their Bosses. Most of them may not like the ideas suggested by their employees.  it is better to follow the boss ideas instead of suggesting the ideas and getting into the problem.

Why does a team have a leader??

Its an interesting debate Mehul. You see what people need to understand here is that every organisation has teams working for them and each of them have a head on top called the boss. Similarly there is a boss on your bosses top too and he maybe the Chairman or the MD or the CMD!!

If you have an idea, you have the right to follow it provided its pertinent. How would you know that?? If you have realised that at any stage of your working in a company you need to establish certain protocols and certain hierarchy. Once that is understood then you go about striking a relationship. if you are successful in striking a relationship with your boss, he / she is the right person to validate your idea and then you follow it deligently.

According to me, bosses have a right to know whats on your mind first and then I am sure you get the opportunity to follow your ideas.

I remember my first day in my job. One of my colleague who was quite experienced by that time told me two golden rules of corporate world:

First, remember always that your boss is always right.

And the second and the most IMPORTANT rule, whenever in doubt refer to the first rule.

I laughed a lot and enjoyed it. Never anticipated the seriousness of it. But after many years I firmly believe that the rules stand true. Whatever arguments we give, whatever claims we can make but the truth is that it all depends on your supervisor/manager/leader/boss. If your boss is a good and favorable then your job is kkkooool else you are in soup.

"Who better knows what's more accurate for the task in hand, Boss or Lower level Employee! I think it's quiet perceptual in case of 'Employees right'. The thing is that one should concentrate more on forwarding their ideas, rather raising the concept of RIGHTS. One should not forget that the person standing besides is a Boss, and no one becomes Boss over-night... point is: Experience do matters. Be practical!

If they have this right, its not good... There is 2 possibilities in this case If the Boss is correct or Wrong when an employee is having his own idea might be better or may not be But if the Idea is good or excellent the boss would praise the employee and give all rewards to the employee but in the next scenario if that employees new idea doesnt work then he has to take all the blame by himself .But in both tee scenarios I would take the old ideas imposed by Boss itself as it would be time saving as well as it would be not problematic but in some cases the employees should prove the worth like finding new ideas but should be in free time and achieving critical deadlines

No. Its a naukri. Follow your boss and follow in line. Perform according to your idea, no way. You have not laid the mission and vision of the company, how can you think of your own and act. If you have the courage to perform according to your own idea, open your own company. However, liberal the boss is, naukri is a form of slavery. Its not meant for people with their own ideas. Howsoever good be the perks or salary or designation, employee has to follow the owners. wow, what a better question to ask from a freelancer.

I think it should not be done outrightly. First new ideas should be discussed with boss and its imperative to take your boss into confidence.

Moreover your boss might have tried that idea before; you should definately respect his experience.

If you got a new powerful idea, your boss will take it positively for sure...unless he/ she is inept decision maker or he/ she is strong reaon for that.

I am firmly for No , since if this policy were followed by every employee , there would not be any company left , only anarchy.

Society is based on rules ; every game has its own set of rules. In olden times , even war was fought within a given framework of rules.

When an employee joins a company , he agrees to abide by its rules , whether he agrees with them or not. Some companies might follow wrong practices , such as racial discrimination or caste discrimination. If I cannot stomach such practices , I can make my feelings known to the concerned authorities and can plead for them to be discontinued. If I cannot , then either I keep quiet or I leave the company and find myself another one. Staying within the company and disobeying the rules is not done.

The correct thing to do , would be to discuss the matter with your boss , and do your best to convince him / her about the correctness of your ideas. Hopefully , truth will triumph , sooner or later.

Another point to note is that perception depends on one's view. When a war is being fought , the view from the trenches is vastly different from the view at the general's desk. Neither the private nor the general should judge the other ; each should go about his own job conscientiously. Similarly , in an organization , the boss's view is based on his perception , which may be different from yours. You cannot assume your perception is right ; it is possible the facts that you know do not encompass the whole truth.
