I think England can beat India because India lack the bowlers which can take 20 wickets if the pitch not supporting to much. Also Indian player expect Yuvi not have technique to face the ball when coming onto them

Though they have performed well in australia, they still need to be consistent. Players like ian bell and peitersen are not stable. And they lack good quality bowlers even though bresnan is bowling well. Australia is a spent side and winning against them is like flogging a dead horse. England has to win against india, south africa and sri lanka to get to the no.1 slot.

As per the recent Ashes performance England really seems like a very well balanced team and a strong contender for the highest rank but I'd rather wait to see how they maintain their grip throughout. Let them win in SA, WI, India and other soils consistently and then no one have to talk for them as the statistics will give them their desired position. But at this moment it's very tough to say them the best team because according to me SA is a better contender than them. Just look at SA's team combination, talent and hard work. I think the world has seen 2 great contests of test cricket side by side---one being the Ashes and the other SA vs India. Both of them presented best quality and top rivalry. But Ashes is like India-Pakistan series. In that series there are always something extra than mere cricket. One can see some of the cricketers performing exceptionally well in the series because of the extra vigor but they just disappear afterward due to inconsistency. Steve Waugh's Australia had not reached the top because they beat England, but they outplayed each and every team in the world for almost a decade. India started the real journey under Saurav Ganguly and then Anil Kumble and Dhoni took India to the summit by performing at every corner of the world. Statistically SA was the only place where India could never show a little bit performance earlier. In that respect India bettered their stint again through hard work and mental strength. So, at this stage India is a far way ahead of England and the team really close to them is SA. Let England perform constantly everywhere in future. Then their performance and statistics will automatically talk for them.

England is the best team but only after India...They beat Aus in Aus, but only for the first time in 24 years...We beat WI in WI, Aus in Aus, drew with SA in SA, beat Eng in Eng, and the list will seem to go on, in any form of the game...We are beginning to take control gradually.Yes, I agree we need to strengthen our bench strength but remember we have not reached this No. 1 spot in a fortnight..We earned it through bournville...through sheer hardwork...Therefore, give them their credit..their bournville for God's sake... And England, I tell ya...even Geoff Boycott's mama can play better than them...so yes, they are the No.1 side...in sprinkler dance...but in Test ranking...they can wait till Ishant Sharma has his third hair-cut in his life....
