Greeshma, I think the question itself is wrongly put as Facebook is a social network, where Google is a IT company with various Enterprise solutions in hand.

If you are talking about ORKUT vs FACEBOOK, I think FB is much advance and collaborative than Orkut..! And Since cloud computing is in place.. the value of comparison ratio decreases as all portals are equally respected..! :)

yes certainly, google is the search engine, which is user frindely there is no other search like google..where as FB is part of that we can say. But day by day FB growing as compred to google's orkut.....

Yes Facebook is growing day by day and Google started losing its importance. People use Google mostly for searching purpose, if Facebook comes up with a search engine then it will be at the top. Nobody can compete with it.

Facebook's hits are increasing exponentially year on year with pageviews as well. Analysis tells that social networks are becoming more popular than search engines. So facebook is the one getting bigger than google for sure.

I think both the GoOgle and facebook are the champion of two different world.GoOgle dominates in SE,news,mail,ads facebook cant beat google in these terms but at the same time facebook dominates(at present) the social networking sites where GoOgle is lagging.

i don't know how one could place any such debate.social networking v. google which provides service for about anything and everything. nothing will ever get bigger than google. the recent traffic into FB from increased internet users from newer places does not make it a valid to compare google and FB on the same platform. perhaps, the question needs to be repharsed for better clarity

If Getting bigger is all about having more web TRAFFIC then the social networking sites will steal the show but if its about Functions and Services then google is a one stop shop. A brand like google cannot be compared with just a social networking site for it has more to offer:- social networking (orkut), email (gmail), data analysis tools (google analytics), Advertisement (ad words), Blog (blogspot), Web album (picasa), google map, translator, ebooks and much more

It is not justice to make comparison of Google with Facebook. Searching engine Vs social network site? I don't think that use of facebook is higher than Google. Studying, gaming, songs, movies, history every thing available in searching engine... Here on toostep some people are making comparison of Google with God. And in this debate we are comparing Google with facebook,,, So can't make comments..

I read the article that you posted. Interesting stats! The point that the article makes is that in the US and UK hits on Facebook have overtaken hits on google.com. So, will social networking sites like FB become a bigger advertising platform and eventually pull revenue away from Google? Interesting point.

Right now it seems a little to early as this trend has been pointed out only in 2 countries. Google has a much wider geographical reach. Even if facebook overtakes google in a couple of geographies they still have a long long long way to go to become bigger than Google.
