Is Google overtaking Microsoft in mobile?

Speaking at the big mobile industry bash in Barcelona today, Eric Schmidt said handset makers were currently shipping 60,000 units a day or 22 million a year with the Google software platform installed. If this is sustainable, it would be well over 2 million more than Microsoft’s 20 million shipped, in the year 2008. Does Microsoft have any hope of getting back into the game? Windows Phone 7 platform rested heavily on design which got some rave reviews from a tech crowd some remarking that for the first time in a long time they were excited about Microsoft in the mobile space.

Many still believe that  Microsoft still faces a tough climb. By the time 7 appears, the iPhone will have been on the market for well over 3 years. Considering that the window of opportunity is closing fast, Microsoft must get this right. One can not deny that it would finally have a product capable of matching up against Apple and Google.

Android now may be hailed by major mobile manufacturers, but we should not forget it initial version was nearly a big fail, that thrived on Google fan-boys and hype around a innovation from Google.. in same way as today around its Chrome OS much before anyone knew any relevant details..
Microsoft agreed that they faltered mobile race and started all over again, which is why we can believe they can undo most of their mistakes.. such as unsuitability to touch, poor UI, etc.
If any one have seen recent demos of windows 7 then their are enough reason to believe that ..  they had done that.
Moreover, since still Blackberry is a success with business executives and cooperates, owing to its good security and outlook exchange sync, which we can only expect from Microsoft to be replicated.

With the recent trends in the US market(as all the OS are present in that market). BB is on first spot, Android based devices has taken over Apple(I-Phone). Microsoft not being any near in presence and preference, yes surely loosing ground.

With the understanding of software evolution, their are lot many thing awaiting to be launched on the platform.

Windows OS being too bulky and as been rightly pointed out doesn't have touch screen ease.

If you look at the number of launches planned for Android based phones in 2010, it far exceeds the Windows based smartphone launches from the same set of leading mobile vendors. The erstwhile partners of Microsoft in smartphones- HTC, LG, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Acer,...- are keen to make this the Year of Android. Moreover, Windows Phone 7 faces criticism for virtually downgrading itself to a mobile phone OS from being a smartphone OS- may be result of its enthusiastic attempt to ape iPhoneOS and its iPod functionalities!

To add a bit more spice to the debate and be a little off track-- Google is all set on defining the 5G of computing in their own way !

not only  is the  success of android of android important but also the rumored google tablet  and its dominance in the market is equally important .IN terms of mobile , Android is way ahead of microsoft in terms of the OS, Apps, and the market share ( which is steadily growing ) .To add further , Android isnt' just for mobile only , we have seen compnaies become ambitious and announce their set-to boxes , tablets etc... on the android platform . All in all android has a very bright future !!

Windows Mobile have claimed the critisism regarding the lack of a finger-friendly interface, native support for capacitve touchscreens and a historically slow and inaccurate web browser compared to Google Android. With the momentum building and more launches with the Android platform are due, there are plenty of reasons to believe that Android is now solidly on track to eclipse the newly-named Windows phone this year.
