Hi Nikhil I think the government did their best for the common wealth games. And the Delhi government plans to raise an amount of Rs1,100 crore for the Commonwealth Games to be held in the state later this year. The reason being our revenue collection through taxes has not been adequate due to recession. Therefore, it has become essential to look for measures to generate additional revenue to sustain development.

So I think it will be properly justified in the coming years.......

Just a few days back, FM (India) taxed the common man by hiking diesel and petrol prices and by hiking excise duties on all commodities. Now the turn of CM (Delhi).

Why the "common man" is always targeted ? Because .. they are hapeless, have no 'body / organisation' to speak for them, no representative to fight for their causes. They are the 'millions of people' living in ( mostly in slams, villages etc ) India.

Common man = All citizens (-) The rich (-) the Corporates (-) the Business Houses and their owners (-) big traders, commission Agents (-) The bourocrats and Babus (-) the slary earners. You guess who are left.

Even after tourchering the common man accross the board, the Ministers claim that they are the "champions for the causes of common man" ... !!

Country comprises of resources and people. Every progress and milestone costs. So it is not bad if we have to sacrifice some pennies in lieu of some global acclamations.

I completely agree with you. It is always the common man who is before the firing line. It is the problem of the Gov to fund the Games. This funding needed to be done and managed before the Games was voted for. Now as the scam are coming out the helpness of the Govt is becoming evident.

Good question to raise Nikhil. The government is certainly not justified in doing all they are planning to, as why should the consumers in a particular city be bearing the burden if the govt do not have necessary funds to meet the expenses. State and then central funds should be sufficient to plan for the events as CWG. Why can’t there be various other measures than taxing the poor consumers, who are already reeling under the price rise? While one feels good to see CWG being held herein but the effects are too hard to bear – roads, markets, colonies, offices, all included. And what justifications are we talking of Kavitha. Anything that goes up is hardly ever rolled back by the government authorities and the hardships would continue even after the CWG are over. Wait & watch can be the policy for the outcome of it all. Thanks anyway for the referral Kavitha.

No Govt cannot and should not do this act as the inflation has already taken it toll on the commn man

Further the mishaps and mishandling can never be the reason why the common man should bear the burnt
