To go any further talking on Green we need to understand first what  Green job is all about. "Any work that contributes to preserving environmental quality, protecting ecosystems and biodiversity can also be defined as a green job."

In India, 10-11 million additional people enter the job market every year. Creating ‘green jobs' is a potential way of meeting the employment demand.  This suggestion came up at a conference on green jobs organised last week in Delhi by the Labour Ministry, along with the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

It's not just the Government that is thinking on these lines. Suddenly, ‘green' has become the new mantra of the job market — with job creation, job migration and labour relation strategies focusing on this new area — all riding on the back of climate change initiatives.  So, what do you think people, Is Green the new mantra of job creators??  Do share your views on this...

I think yes,  there are forecasts already, and soon you could find a Green Department in corporate organisations. Although, the concept of a ‘green collar economy' is still nascent in India, top consultancy like, E&Y has started looking at providing consultancy in this space.

In India, the maximum buzz on new green jobs is in the renewable energy space (the potential is about 1,50,000 jobs) and in green buildings, but the opportunity to create new jobs is literally everywhere, from agriculture to administration.

Yes and no. You could say that it is the new mantra or slogan for job creation or business in general.  Going green is big these days in or out of business. It falls inline with the marketing of most companies.  Eco or green marketing is needed in most business endeavors. Some companies are investing in a future that is more environmentally centered. Even though some companies aren’t truthful about going green in the first place but it can be a good strategy for job creation & doing business in general.  Most green jobs represent a wide range of meaningful, long-term employment and can provide opportunities for lower-skilled workers career advancement. Yes and no. Its sad that we have to discuss such things, its not important that we create jobs out of green industry or not but please think regarding creating green value. If the efficiency rate in India right now is say atleast 5% then for every increase in 100 persons in the industry 5 persons are working for nature and that thing may be small still a starting drop in completing building the GREEN OCEAN.

Its just another marketing gimmick. Every now and then new management fads come along and every organization wants to associate themselves with that fad to sound important and in line with the corporate trends. Same thing happened with "Corporate Social Responsibilty", too. How many companies actually have a principle leading this department. Companies just used it to show others they are giving it back to the society; and companies spent millions on advertisements claiming their CSR initiatives. This time "Green" is the new "Black".
