According to the report of Global peace Index (GPI), 2011, India has fallen into the 20 least peaceful countries list. India is queuing up with countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan. The country is been ranked 135 out 153 nations in the world. Pakistan is ranked 146 and Afghanistan 150 reports Anahita Mukherji for Economic Times.

India's score remains the same on most parameters compared to its last year scores. Homicide and crime rates in India, too, are a lot lower than many other countries but the fall in rankings is largely due to an increasing perception of criminality in society.

Is it really so?? Are we going far away from peace day by day?

More or less when we hear a news we tend to see things with that prospective. It is then that we feel the news we heard or read was right .. If we are told we live in a peaceful place we will perhaps feel so..

comparatively yes.Trend shows:I doubt if it will continue to be a peaceful place. The misgovernance and lack of proper security vigil and rampant corruption in every sector will make it a most dangerous place one day. examples could be cited from j.dey killing, to rampant rapes all over India... money laundering and others..

According to population of India there is very low crime rate as comparison to other countries of world. Pending crime cases is the main reason for fall in peaceful country ranking. Otherwise overall we are living in peaceful surrounding.

Barring some parts of the country where you find high rates of criminal activities, I think India on the whole is a peace-loving nation for its peace-loving citizens.

Om Shanti Om

Yes,it goes without saying. My India is the most peaceful country in the universe to live in.Some stray incidences of violence caused by some terrorist outfits cannot take away our sheen as a peaceful country.Look at Pakistan how it bleeds every day every moment. The country which was laughing at us when we were bleeding is being paid by its own coin.See the testimony of Headly in Chicago court fast unfolding the ISI's direct involvement in 26/11 attack.Despite some setbacks our country is stable and peaceful.Let us love to live together.

Its peaceful to live but we have to handle the frauds and cheaters effectively that are available in the market. In India if you landed in an unknown place, you will be received and greeted by cheaters unless you book a taxi or hotel well in advance.

There is hardly any place in the wold which is 100% peaceful, so it is better to think of what you have than which you don't have. So throw such reports in it's right place, the dustbin. Sorry for such harsh comments, Tina but

Proud to be I - Indian. & to be in India.

It depends really where you live. India is so diverse that it's incorrect to think that the situation of the J&K border or in the Naxal war zone is the same as in some peaceful neighborhood of some metro or village.

So as far as I am concerned, India is a peaceful place, since I am living in a peaceful place.

Till we have Pakistan and China on the world map we cannot expect ourselves to be safe. Also till we have poor people we cant be safe. Moreover till the politicians are corrupt we are always under threat and are not safe.

We have got everything which can destroy us the very next second. Terrorists, Naxals, Corrupt Politicians, Dishonest Officers and Unfaithful Workers.

OMG!.......... I am thankful every second I manage to live.

ITS A BIG NO.

TO HAVE A PEACEFUL LIFE ONE SHOULD FOLLOW "LIVE AND LET LIVE POLICY" NOT ONLY IN INDIA, WHEREVER YOU GO.  YOU SHOULD BE SURROUNDED BY SUCH PEOPLE THOSE WHO FOLLOW THIS POLICY, THEN YOU WILL HAVE PEACEFUL LIFE.

THE PEACE DISAPPEARS WHEN ANYBODY MEDDLES IN YOUR PERSONAL OR PROFESSIONAL LIFE, ON THE SPUR OF THE MOMENT LIFE COMES TO A STANDSTILL.

WHEN THE PARAMETERS ARE NOT CLEARLY EXPLAINED IT IS HIGHLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY IT IS A SAFE HEAVEN OR NOT. BARRING 26 /11 AND TO THE DELHI HIGH COURT BOMB IT IS ALWAYS A VERY DIFFICULT PREPOSITION TO DETERMINE RATHER CORRECTLY IT IS A SAFE HEAVEN OR A HELL.
