Its quite a challenge to hold back the best brains especially when the remuneration and other avenues are quite exciting abroad. On the other hand, infrastructure seems to have taken an upward growth especially with corporate houses and govt institutions investing over 300 cr to set up facilities. However the lack of experts, and definitive motivation factors are impeding the facilities to be extended to tertiary & secondary care centres. It may be argued that these centres cannot afford sustainance as the target market has negligible affordibility. But why deny them. Is the govt corpus of over 30K cr for BPL market create the next drive for creating facilities at these centres or the situation would move at a snail's pace... something to watch over the next decade

Saptarshi, good debate.

According to me the main reason why we lack in the medical infrastructure is due to the brain drain. The cause for this brain drain is the Indian government, they did not provide sufficient resources and technology to utilize their talent. So atleast form now the government should come forward to fund the healthcare sector which seems to have large scope in the coming future.

YES AS A CITIZEN OF THIS COUNTRY, I FEEL THAT ARE COUNTRY SHOULD PROSPER AND DEVELOP.BUT IT IS EASY  TO BE SAID THAN  DONE. BECAUSE IT IS NOT AN INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY BUT IT IS RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL THE PEOPLE. AND REASON FOR ARE BACKWARDNESS IS CORRUPTION , POVERTY , LACK OF INFRASTRUCTURE AND DEVELOPMENT . REASON YOU SEE MANY MEDICAL GRADUATE PURSUE THEIR POST GRADUATION IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES AND TRY TO SETTLE OVER THERE BECAUSE THEY THINK THAT INDIA LACK INFRASTRUCTURE , THEY ARE UNABLE TO SHOWCASE THERE TALENT AND THERE ABILITIES BECAUSE THERE IS LACK OF OPPURTUNITIES GIVEN TO THEM. WHILE IN COMPARISON WITH DEVELOPED COUNTRIES, THEY HAVE A VERY GOOD INFRASTRUCTURE , FUNDS , ABLE TO GIVE FAT PAY PACKAGES TO THEIR EMPLOYEES. WE HAVE TO NOTE DOWN OVER HERE  THAT PROBLEM IS NOT ABOUT HUMAN RESOURCES , WE HAVE MORE TALENTED AND SKILLED PEOPLE OVER HERE , AND  PEOPLE NOT TO SHY AWAY FROM HARDWORK BUT PROBLEM OVER HERE IS LACK OF OPPURTUNITIES. THERE IS LOT OF SCHEMES AND MONETARY FUNDS  BEING DISBURSED BY THE GOVERNMENT BUT AT GROUND LEVEL NO SUBSTANTIAL WORK HAS BEING DONE. THERE ARE IMPROVEMENT BUT THEY ARE GOING AT SNAIL PACE. THERE ARE RISING SCAMS , CORRUPTION AND TERRORIST ATTACK , NAXALITES . AND ULTIMATE SUFFERER ARE NONE OTHER THAN STUPID COMMON MAN . I THINK TIME HAS COME TO CHANGE OURSELVES AND FIGHT FOR OUR  RIGHTS . AND NEED OF AN HOUR IS TO DEVELOP INFRASTRUCTURE AND CREATE OPPURTUNITIES AND WORK IN OUR COUNTRY AND SERVE THE NATION.

As practising clinician I feel, that it is not brain drain, there are lot of issues that come to play here,

  1. the human resource going for the course, they are there because they are not aware of other options, or parental pressure
  2. unnecessary specializations, so we have good technicians but not many physicians who are our primary requirement
  3. we have stopped looking at the human body as a whole
  4. lack of family practise system
  5. our obsession with higher degree's displayed

Brain drain on a larger extent is causing lack of / non usage of medical infrastructure in our country.       e.g.- Equipments laying unused in renowned govt. hospitals as professionals have migrated to private sector or foriegn countries.

No doubt govt is taking various measures and forming new policies to improve the Health Sector , though on practical grounds may take some time . So let's keep the fingers crossed and hope for the best.
