Subbarao the RBI Governor was new at that time. Montek was very well immersed in economics/finance even though he was entrusted with planning commission. Chidambaram, unfortunately, probably he guarded our economy pretty well by going beyond protocols, call of duty etc was given the Home Ministry itself, because an innovative and fresh thinking was required there. The home ministry was made a mess by all previous high profile and lax politicians. He could even get the prime opposition party's support in various issues. Issues like Naxalism, J&K at least started getting discussed and parties started getting together across the table for discussions. But that is definitely not a congratulatory or rewarding or recognizing act from the Govt/polity/bureaucracy for someone who stood ground and saved a billion people from losing a trillion or more worth of lifelong savings, assets or liquidity......
