In many countries, IPTV, is already popular with millions of users. But it has yet to make a mark in India even though leading telecom providers like Reliance Infocomm, Bharti Tele Ventures and the state-owned BSNL have rolled out services last year. But so far none has been able to build a significant base of subscribers.

Is India really ready for IPTV ? What are your thoughts on this? Please share..

I personally think that India is not ready for IPTV as the speed of internet in our country is relatively low. We are only have a max speed of 2-3mbps were as in US its upto 20- 40mbps. India still experiences poor internet connectivity speeds in many cities and towns. Only selective cities have fiber optic networks and we are still waiting for the 3G network.

The internet speeds should be more, atleast of the order to 7MBPS to broadcast without buffering. I think India does not have sufficient infrastructure to provide such speeds in every corner of the country

Considering the internet speeds of developed countries like US, South Korea etc. IPTVs are more popular and depend on the internet speeds of 200 Mbps and also achieve it by the means of Wireless Technology 802.11.

On the flip side of the coin, see Indian Telecom Companies struggling to bring speeds for atleast 2Mbps and that through the use of wired system.

The answer is a sure no until the network infrastructure boosts up to its need.

The infrastructure in our country cannot sustain this kind of digital televisions runned by high speed internet. We still need to develop our infrastructure a lot in order to achieve the minimum standards required for this project.
