indian automobile sector is due for a big boost with increased migration of working class people with high disposbale income with them. But the manufacturing sector should be duly supported with increased infrastructure like roads, and raliways inorder to support the traffic. which am afraid is not the current situation. So infrastructure build up is important before the boom in manufacturing came be boosted.

With a host of new model introductions in the small passenger car sector, almost new models everyday in the 2 wheeler sector suiting all market segments(Fuel efficient bikes and Harley Davidson's entry in India) what else can be concluded? Auto boom is happening. This can be further boosted with auto component players providing quality and cost advantages to the sector by OEMs. New and old entrants need to pep up the component market by indigenisation to maintain SUSTAINABILITY of theis boom. We lack sustenance in both OEM and component sectors (proably due to complacence).

I believe YES, for all the people against just go through this......India the biggest democracy in the world with one of the biggest youth base that too with the growing disposal income(at last the recession seems to be leaving) and becoming one of the major hubs for small car segment in such a way that companies have started manufacturing cars keeping in mind our market conditions, companies launching their products in India first (have u seen such things in the past?)...not even the small car segment we have the largest names in the luxury car market present in India eager to grow their presence all over the country..i don't see a single reason why this segment should show negative growth i believe the growth is here to stay.....

India's emergence as a centre of manufacturing for international vehicle makers, which are adding huge capacities, will result in the hiring of five million new employees over three years, according to estimates collated by the country's apex automotive body. This is the total of both, direct and indirect employment growth as a result of the expansion. Estimates put together by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) say this will be the extra added between now and 2012, to support the ever-increasing demand for new vehicles. Further seven million will be added in the period from 2012 to 2016, almost doubling the count to 25 million from the present 13 million; again, this comprises both direct and indirect employment. This would make the automotive sector one of the largest job generating sectors in India in the current decade. This also means increase in level of pollution day by day thus in my opinion Indian consumer must now get mature enough to opt for green ,Eco friendly automobiles. Car manufacturers should promote their GREEN vehicles and should be made available at affordable prices.

I think the Indian Auto industry is in for a high trajectory growth provided we build more roads to accomodate them. If the roads are not built in some pace then the government will boost the tax on the or components to reduce the demand. Since Kamalnath stated 20km road is going to be sanctioned everyday till they leave I believe the firat assumption is going to happen.

I think we are still too far short of roads. It is said that atleast 25% of the land area in any city has to be covered with roads. For that to happen we need active participation of the authorities to increase the road surface area. If we dont increase the density of the real estate, the government has to spend too much money in building multi layered roads for which we will foolishly pay lots of tolls. But thats not the reason we would see a boost. The main reason being industries are back especially IT and BPO sector. With these sectors growing there sure is going to be lots of sales in vehicles and thus the manufacturing sector.

With all the road infrastructure being built at a good speed (or atleast being attempted), there is a good chance of vehicular sales going up. But this growth is more likely to be in the commercial vehicle space. Small to large commercial vehicles would definitely get a boost since the manufacturing industries would more and more likely shift their transportation activities via roads and public transport demand would drive up bus sales. As far as car sales are concerned it is possible that they would increase at a nominal pace(and anyways we really don't need too many cars and have huge traffic blocks like the US, we need decent public transportation network).

Surely automobile sector will see a growth in times to come, and with a boost to road construction and vehicular infrastructure will add icing to the cake. However merely commitment of 20km/day road construction will not give a major impetus, due to following reasons: 1 - Cost of Fuel and logistics - auto ancillaries have a long logistics chain. the procurement cost of parts, machines and equipment influences the production cost and capacity for any company. 2- Govt. grants, subsidies, import duty levied on raw material to ancilliaries and manufacturing companies. 3- Cost of steel and related iron products. 4- which segment of automobiles sees a consistent growth, that will also impact the industrial growth rate. 5- Control on incremental inflation rate. If all the above factors stay under manageable standards, we can surely see growth in not only automobile manufacture, but overall improvement in industrial growth rate.

Most of the Indian population either move by feet or by bicycles so they are actually being influenced by the cheap automobiles coming in India. This might be the reason for larger growth in manufacturing of automobiles in the future.

Any sector may it be manufacturing or IT is run by the market, since Indian market are on road to recovery so does the industries and recent turnout at Auto-expo Delhi, clearly indicates positive scenario in future of automobile sector. I observed some of the specialist demand were also catered by the leading brands that will help in maturity of Indian Automobile sector.

I think yes, India has the world's second largest road network at 3.4 million Km. and the national highway network is standing at an impressive 70,000 km. Also, under a 34-billion dollars program partly funded by the World Bank, government is planning to build 375,000Km of new rural roads this year. Thus we can very easily say Indian automobile manufacturing sector has taken a tremendous leap forward for the manufacturers sector and is sustaining employment generation in the economy is one of the example of resilience of the Indian economy. So, its clear that its ready for a boost.

If, we have to go by the fact that 20km will be developed a day, after a while, then finally we will have nothing in India left but roads and roads and roads to go everywhere, but, not a single place to dwell and cultivate. Road development is not the only key aspect to improve Automobile sector. Second the economic growth has declined whereas on the other hand the Food Price Index has grown to high levels. Failure of monsoons and a combination of factors has hampered the growth of Indian Economy. We have to wait for the Budgets to get an answer for this ? Improvement of exports sector growth with respect to Automobiles and its ancilliary units is required. Lesser taxation on Automobile exports would help the sector improve its margins. Domestic growth may help but only to a marginal ratio. R&D improvement and less taxation for imports for these works is required.

We must wait till the budget is announced, the government has said a lot of things, hope to see the implementation now.. It must be noted that the government plans for 20KM per day, presently the growth is 7 KM per day.. So there is a long way to go before 20KM/ day...

We should not forget that poor infrastructure in our country is shaving an estimated one or two percentage points off because of which India's annual economic growth, has slowed down to to 6.7% in 2008/09 after three years of 9% growth. Thus, it will be too early to predict the possible boost of Indian automobile manufacturing sector.
