Indian cricket is good on the papers and media and for those who want talk goody goody stuff. On field, the team performance is pathetic and sloppy. Either one player is rated too high or criticized

Kavitha the saddest part is that CRICKET is loosing its charm in all forms. The WORLD Cup has its own story to augment my idea. Expect India matches the poor turnout in all most all the other matches is just sufficient enough.World Cup followed by I.P.L & Assembly Election in some States certainly a nightmare.

Kavitha I agree with you completely. The Indian Players are playing for the sake of playing. If asked they will say we have given our 100%. Actually IPL with big money has made the players a spent force. If they win Cricket World Cup it will by fluke. I am sorry to say this batting power house needs recharge to stay with power otherwise will burst out like Japan's reactors.

Indians love cricket more than any other sport that is why media covers only the famous concepts like cricket, terrorism, celebrity’s affairs etc.But I see some DD1, Telugu channels covering all the sports news and BBC also covers all the sports. Many Indian news channels are not having the standards of BBC, so they will show only the news according to public demand and in this way they want to become famous. If public show interest in other sports then soon the focus of media will go on the other sports, so channels move according to public demand …it is fault of public not the media and not the Indian cricket…..

Yes,the game itself is over hyped, the fact you have put it up for discussion shows the hype behind,it's crazy, how we are suckers for a game which is played seriously in less than a dozen countries in the world and not at all an olympic sport.Into that heaven of freedom from cricket, let my countrymen awake,is my humble prayer to the almighty.

We are no longer the favourites now! But, cricket is anybody's game! You may have surprises from any time. The team that plays as a team on a specific day wins! "Wear and Tear" is part of the game - unpredictable!

Even if they are, they deserve this for the remarkable turnaround that they have achieved from a bunch of self egoistic superstars to a winning combination through sheer team effort.

I was also thinking about our much more hype on cricket. This game has got more popularity and importance than the other games in India. But while watching the recent world cup in TV, the boys are under more pressure and worked very hard to win the world cup on 2-4-11. This is the second time India has done after the year 1983 which was first time under the captain- ship of Mr.Kapil Dev. There is no point in giving too much importance for a single player and it is a group efforts by all players. Sometimes the star player may not be able to perform well due to the ground situation and others should be prepared to bring best results. Example: the final between India and Srilanka.Everybody might have watched the TV shows.Gautham Kambir, Doni, and Yuvaraj Sing have contributed the victory for India. Thanks for the referral Ms.Kavitha.

NO way... how on earth can a game be over hyped........but yes the cricketers are over hyped to a certain degree....n that's because of our psyche.........why on earth should we care, what car dhoni drives. Why should we even bother if Nehra is veg or non-veg. ITS SPECULATION LIKE THIS AND THE CURIOSITY OF THE FANS THAT HYPES THE CRICKETERS........but on the other hand they are fans and they love their stars and the media will try to entertain.......and moreover its common in every country to over-hype the players of their most popular sport. So even if they are over-hyped it dosen't matters as we all love the sport and the ones representing us in it.

Wont say over hyped. Most of the hype surrounding cricket is made up by the media. If a player gives up a match winning performance the media starts magnifying there efforts, either praising them too much or criticising them,Linking them up with filmstars, following them where ever they go,peeping inside their personal life. Moreover we dont excel in anyother sport apart from cricket.

I think the Media has created all the HYPE, w/o them am sure we all would be doing our work and enjoyed the cricket like a it was in late '90s..Secondly, the IPL is another influencing factor.

No, its Not. "Cricket" isn't over-hyped and so is the team. Its a passion in among youth in India and is a common sport for rich and poor alike. My grand father, father and me watched and discussed it like a family problem for years. Our team is favorite in WC as everybody in the world knows that its hard to beat India on its own soil. All cricket experts say that. Don't underestimate this sport Mam.
