You have highlighted a question which is of immence importance. Govt. of India and specially our PM has identified the Maoists the prime threat of 'internal security'. Question : may we loose to the Maoists when our country is ruled by Democracy ? Only answer : No.and Problem is : a section of the (city/town) middle class intelengecia keep sympathy to them and supply them fund & support as has been witnessed inWBengal. We have seen weeknesess also from two CMs each from Bihar & Jharkhand. The Maoists have time and again (practically) refused to lay down arms and talk to Govt. over their isses. They are banking on "underdevelopment" but trying to blockade 'development' so that they may draw the poor people to their fold and equip them with arms - they pay average Rs.2,000-00 per head p.m. to the young, age 12 to 22 to work for them. Apart from using the forces as "Joint Forces" from Central and State Govts as a co-ordinated team from the affected states, all attemps should be taken to isolate the Maoists from the (support) of the general mass. Yes ... development is MUST. But for that, peace is a pre-condition.

The Govt can tackle it if it carries on with the alacrity with which it has taken this issue now. This issue actually warranted attention way back and its not that it was not attempted at. But clearly you will find that basically govt did not took the problem head-on and time and again this issue was taken sideways so that the extra time would be available to the negotiators to come to settlement. Often leaders were bought but the problem remained as it is is and has assumed gigantic proportion today. Also sometimes courts succomed to the Naxal sympathisers and brought to halt many Police actions. ALso negotiators lost hope from the govts as they did not get support from the govt and they had to lose face at the hands of Maoists. A environment of belief and appreication and trust for one another must be established between both the parties so that an amicable settlement takes place. Must remember that they are our people sidelined due to fruits of liberalisation no reaching them. Caution is needed as the casualties can be larger. A multipronged strategy needs to be taken syumpathetically and cautiously and there cannot be one single solution or one strategy, a mix and match, trial and error needs to be done to solve this problem. But the problem can be solved especially since the country has now the most able person at the helm of Home Affairs, Mr Chidambram and if any person is capable of doing it fast it will be definitely Mr P Chidambram. I am putting up the matter of Naxalism here which I had mentioned in my blog a few weeks ago. Please go through it in brief: http://prabhakarsrivastava.blogspot.com/2010/02/naxal-violence_16.html

If at all the politicians are interested in the well being of our country and its people they should come together at least in this subject to save the country. In my opinion the these guys will not come together as they are running the parties as their pvt ltd companies and enhancing their wealth and handing over the same to their sons or daughters irrespective of the parties. Once maoist taks over perhaps the first to be afftecd is only these politicians who has plundered the wealth of country and instantaneous justice will be done. Even at that time our politicians will divide the maoists either by cast or religion or geographically and perhaps may try to save the country so that they can live happily for ever.

The daily arrests and death of so many Maoists leaders still reveals that we haven't lost our control off their activity. This kind of activities and arrests will always occur. But this doesn't mean they are gaining power. Maoists may be the output of the rich and poor discrimination in our country but that doesn't mean they will start terrorism. The recent arrest of Ravi Sharma is another proof of their daily breaking legs.

Yes I agree with Dipankar. See we have laws foeach & every thing but ther are not followed. Why? We can stop terrorism without help of other nations. We r one man army. Government have to solve first religion issues, strict laws, then we can say that India is able to tackle maoist issues

I dont agree since its not a hardcore terrorist problem which could be tackled by brutal force rather a problem having its roots in the socio-economic condition prevailing in our country. The maoist problems have their origin in decade long non devolopmental issues in remote areas and discriminatory distribution of wealth to such an extent that people reached points of starvation in certain areas of our country. The armed response of this groups should rather be seen on grounds of survival of these people drawn to the extent of extinction rather than foreign led jihadis. Sustainable devolopment in this areas, direct implementation of govt. welfare schemes without red tape mishaps and infrastructural devolopment could be an answer to such problems.

I don't think so. The activities of maoists are increasing daily in our country. The more arrests against maoists daily, the daily cases of attacks from maoist side is increasing. When asked, the reason they give for these reason is for the increasing discrimination between rich and poor in our country. I think the real problem of maoist attacks in our country is because of our present system which is supressing the poors more and more to such an extent that they are getting compelled to do these type of activities. If we balance our political system so that the poor people don't lose their rigths, these problems will get solved automatically...
