I am scared we are wasting pool of talents in india. We are not creating any space where there is risk involved. we are in the dark side where still scared to take the risk where results are guaranteed. Why so, if we have achieve more and want to live in developed country then we must take some risk.

Indians are risk takers. From ancient times they have gone to far east and west in search of job, venture or business. Even Mahatma Gandhi gone to South Africa to deal with people and take risk in some other country. Even now people of Indian origin are working or doing business in all over world. We are hard working can deal with any type of people. A lot of people like Laxmi Mittal, Swaraj Paul, Anil Agrawal, Tatas, Ambani etc. are doing business at world level. They are Indians and dealing with different type of people, situations, problems, races, and areas.

Indians are known for avoiding risk not because they do not have experience or knowledge but because to play safe since most of them are from middle class family. They do not want to take risk because of their nominal income.

Our Indians were solid in risk taking in the pre-independence era! Now, Nationalism has taken a backseat! Today's risk takers are those who have very strong business background, healthy financial back-up, political cover-up, family cover-up! Take risks to multiply the resources earned - only risk they take is to guard their secret of stashing money in Swiss Account, money-laundering without getting caught, support big political parties when called for, support them supply chartered planes to go wherever they want to take care of their business interests when curtains fall on them.

Indians are not risk averse. its only because of our readiness to take risk, we are performing well as a nation. But we are intelligent and know how to hedge our risk. Even if we take a list of successful personalities in the world, most of them are Indian origin or from Indian race. It is not easy to comment on this in comparison with any other nation. But Indians are not risk averse.

Since the majority of postings on this site is based on the Indian context, I prefer just to read and avoid making comments so as not to irritate members as I have done in the past. However, since there are many Indian businessmen in many parts of the world including my country who have successful businesses, then I have no choice but to add my two cents and support risk takers. For someone to leave their country to set up businesses in a foreign country he has to have guts to take such big risks.

Not only Indians have to be careful when taking risks in any projects, this should apply to every nation.

Indians are basically risk avoiders. But peoples mindsets are changing. They are now following the mantra "No Risk No Gain" Life is all about taking risk, we carry risk along side everyday in our life. So if we need to succeed in life then we must taqke risk.

As with many of the topics here on this forum there is no black and white. Regarding Indians being risk-takers or avoiders, nationality might be just one of the sub-factors in culture that affects the propensity for risk taking. There might be other, and more significant, factors such as personality, past experiences, ability to take risks, etc. that would determine a person's risk-taking ability. So there is no need to deride ourselves as risk avoiders.

Mostly Indians are risk avoiders because they achieve upto some limit and then stop climbing up. But there are some exceptions also but most of us are afraid of experimenting and taking risk.

I dont deny that Tata/ambani/paul/mittal are examples of risk takers but dont forget that fact that they are big business man.

I Feel , we need to talk about majority to reach in concrete direction than reacting in patriotism.  Lets think, whats the percentage of business class people in India Population out of educated and above poverty line people.

How many names you know like tata ... etc so ..

our core programming from childhood are generally make us a risk avoidable as parents teach us, dont do this/that/its not good/ who told you/ dont do it, etc so only very very few people follow their instincts and become Risk takers and gains high,  if majority was risk takers that Most of people may have been doing business than staying in jobs and illusion of security.

We Indians are risk avoider because from childhood our parents had taught us not to take risk instead they asked us to avoid it. Its our Indian nature we cant change it. May be in future we can expect our Indian to be risk takers. Lastly our Indians are risk takers only in one thing that is scam or corruption or bribe or scandal. Jai Hind.

I am confident that most of us are Risk avoiders, and the reason behind is that we dont have any experience or no knowledge in the specific domain where risk involved.

May be years ago we were Risk-Takers but today we surely do not want to take any sort of risk.We actually have to be concerned about us and the people associated with us which refrains us from taking any risk.

Not being judgemental whether we are by nature risk takers or avoiders I believe a lot depends on how the indian culture has developed over time. We were once a very rich economy and almost the trading hub of the world but thereafter we have been ruled by external rulers who have taken all the wealth out of India which made us people with little in hand and thats where we Indians have developed the high propensity to save as we have seen bad days and I believe we will become adventurous and risk takers once we become confident of our economic and social independence.

Definately, Indians avoid taking risk due to the reason that they want to secure the life of upcoming generation and save around 75-80% of their income towards the same as per some articles I have read and this totally opposite in the case in abroad. "Taking risk might won't give you sucess but it always help in raising an idea."

To have a mindset for taking risk we should know our comfort levels to cushion the adverse impact. These levels are guided largely by the earning capacity and saving potential of the individual. Indians by and large have been used to the low saving potential over the last so many years. Hope fully things will change for the better with better standard of life and economic prosperity. Unitll then it is more relavant to say that Indians by nature are risk avoiders.

I completely agree with Gururaj......

Most of the Indians like playing safe without taking any risk. We are by nature risk avoiders. Unless everyone takes risk we cannot become a developed country ........

Think people !!!

Wow Wonderful and this is true with most of the cases in india today.
Exceptionally good one and it touched my heart. We are not worried about whats happening and not thinking about what we have lost while in the journey and when we think about it we might have lost the beauty of it.
