Is it fair to have a fairness application on Facebook??

A Facebook application an advertising gimmick to promote skincare brand Vaseline’s new fairness product for men has been panned by the international media, for being ‘racist’. Also a city poll of 100 men found that for most Delhiites too, the concept of such an application is “ridiculous".

But don't you think terming it racist is a bit too far that we are making it out of it.....It is just an application, and people are having fun with it, as we all know that somewhere down the line people are fairness obsessed, so keeping this in mind they have devised this application and in a way with so much furore over this issue, they are infact making people see what this application is all about...so in a way the app is getting viral for that matter....but as an application people, Is it fair to have a fairness application on Facebook??

I don't think it is right to have an application like this, and I believe Men used to be tall, dark & handsome for that matter, and when did this insecurity about their skin color creep in, this application is there for fun and these are all the marketing gimmicks which are being done by the companies and even stars are endorsing and hence the new sort of obsession for fairness is seen from both male & Female ratio....but terming it racism is not at all acceptable, but international media are wary of racism issues, especially in US, UK and Australia...Imagine the horror and uproar if this racist application would have published by a western country, Infact I would never photoshop or modify my display picture. I am what I am, and it is fake to do something like that......

BTW, if such programs comes then you will only be the winner for sure. Anyway Face book has already have programs related to all real life activities, so its no doubt that fairness application will also come up and brushing application/bathing application/getting ready to office and so on applications will also follow. anyway its all about entertainment, and keeping people busy on their sites.

Yes, why not. It is a clever marketing ploy using the soical media to its fullest advantage. Its not as if fairness creams are going to stop selling or be used otherwise. Just like any other advertising medium, it si a creative and imaginary use of the social media which in my opinion is going to stay for a long time to come.

Why decry something which has been used innovatively to get the point across. I wonder !

FMCG companies are trying to tap the segment of men which feels insecure and try to exploit them and moreover the use of fairness creams for wither sexes for a long duration of time is not suggested by Doctors infact

It is a good topic that you pointed out. Cosmetics will never change the natural properties. It is not good to go against nature.

I am not a Facebook browser and quite frankly feel its a sheer waste of productive time.

And advt .well maybe I agree with you guys in a very limited way but I will give you support.

Also.I see we are 4/5 people getting into a debate  ..Its like Blind leading a Blind...
