it is not the college that opens, but the quality of students it churns out. Many engineers are totally oblivious about grammar, communication, ecology, environment, social issues, and also very poor at relationships. On the whole, both medical and engg colleges are not producing quality students in terms of the entire personality.

Sharad, The problem is maintaining the quality, Not number of Engg. college. i think its not wise idea to stop anything for not achieving the quality. I am not supporting for whom they are doing this for business. but indirectly, our generation is attaining the knowledge. Yes. i agree that, Quality is poor nowadays. but its our duty to work on it.

Yes it is an imperative to have more good engineering colleges in India. Most people will be shocked to hear my comment. Well I have qualified my comment by using the word " GOOD". I find maximum people here compl...aining that there is a multiplicity of engineering colleges in India. We cannot curtail this Fundamental right enshrined under this Constitution, that any person can establish any educational institution. The Constitution even goes to the extent of saying that separate institutions can be be established for separate classes. This has been done not to promote the idea of multiplicity of colleges or educational institutions, but it is in social interest that no body should be deprived of his right to education. I do not want to encircle myself or anybody into a constitutional debate. The objection people have here is the diminishing quality or standard of education. But a mere curb or ban is not the solution. The point here is a better standard of engineering education, better jobs prospects and thats all. There is no consideration beyond this. Once any engineering college ensures that these considerations are met, there is nothing left. In my opinion, there is no need to curtail low standard engineering educational institutions. Engineering institutions basically run on the profound fees they collect from students which means that their root is their finance which they cash in from their students. So it is for the students to carry out a good survey and not to blindly believe flashy impressive website presence or banners or magazine reviews. If students exercise this discretion given to them, finance to such institutions can be cut off and they will die themselves without affecting the constitutional mandate. At the same time good institutions choosen by students will flourish more because of the finance put in by students and due to the resources by which such institutions will be able to develop themselves more. Let the institutions prove themselves between them and then survive. Multiplicity of institutions doesnot require to be regulated, the discretion of the student needs to be regulated.Hence I donot find merit in continuing this discussion. I was invited by Padmaja in this discussion. Please consider Padmaja as supported by my words. In any case, any of her words are inconsistent to mine, her words shall override those of mine.

Anything done in excess in not good. There is no point in creating more engineering colleges without creating the jobs for them. I know of many eng students who work as courier boys etc. for lack of landing a job after their graduation. It is only mindless and only aids in filling the pockets of the owners who are politicians in most cases. Also more colleges without quality education is also a major problem which just cannot be solved by mindless expansion.

Is it necessary to have so many ministers in the union cabinet of India? Do we need so many ministers of state in the cabinet? Look at the ratio of the number of staff associated with a product/service in India - do we need so many? If the answer is 'Yes'to questions like these then it is good to have so many engineering colleges. Everybody wants to justify what they do while they oppose everything which is not useful to them - not a good mentality!

The answer is no, as nowadays colleges are becoming source of income. & this condition came due to none other than politicians, who have taken land from Govt. @ nominal rate & then converting it into profit making centers. & they even don't care about it's standard as they gave admission to those students who came with lot of money as donations & with political influence.

An old school thought...I dis agree...During our time there was only 7 Engg colleges in kerala...during interviews the name of the college or university was sufficient enough for selection....Now no body knows...just like grocery store here and there....needless to say the quality gone down.....
