Reaching a top position in a career is a purely materialistic thing. N so purely materialistic qualities can help you. You need not be good at heart- May be you should pretend so, do street smartness where required and so on. But may be you'll miss your satisfaction or won't enjoy your position when u r up there. Thts not the question here, as far as I understand.

I would say 'yes'. Because, many successful personalities are good "human beings". The list goes like Sir Sorabji who has founded first Indian Bank, Steve Jobs of Apple Computers, Bill Gates of Microsoft, Warren Buffet, Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, Infosys Narayana Murthy etc. The issue is very complicated. In the course of climbing the career ladder, some may do certain things and behave in some way which may be critised by others. But, doing something while climbing the career ladder may appear to be inhuman to some, but, it may not be so in all cases. But, one thing that is certain is that a good Human Being carries good will which is the most important asset to anyone. Good Human being is not the one who tolerates all illegalities and tortures and it is to be specifically noted. I do strongly feel that it is very very important to be a good human being to progress in career.

Bagla & Ziz saheb!! Interesting particularly when both of you are together in a debate!! It always adds logic and dimension! But particularly this debate, the argument has to be from a third person point of view and based on personal experiences!! Difficult! When you talk about things idealistic, the awareness of non ideal behavior should be foremost in the mind as the distinction of being ideal will lose its charm! Similarly when we talk about all things good then the attribute of BAD has to be in the forefront... thats where behavior changes all the time. We are not always surrounded by GOOD are we? Then when you find yourself in a circumstance where the target is self and infliction is by a third party who is BAD, would turn the other cheek and say "hey I am a good guy, please go ahead and do what you want?".... I may sound very basic here but thats where the whole point is... Ethics or not, does the world adhere to it? Attacks on OZ Indians... Were the Indians (us) bad OR Are the OZ's bad?? Thats where the grass root is. So being good does not always help as there are people around you who would be tremendously jealous and would not show it to you directly but plot right when your back is facing them.. Thats one of the reasons why we do not have eyes at the back! That is my view!!

My very personal experience of > 30 years says, just being & doing good, helping (golden heart) doesn't help to reach to the top or your potential in these days of so called 'kalyug' (at least not initially / immediately and fast) and street smartness and gift of the gab is very much required / essential for success to the top and reach your potential ... And yet, at the same time I believe in being good and doing good with a golden heart (programmed by nature) and I feel goodness/honesty pays in the long run / finally, as ultimately good is recognized, but the equal degree of worldly success may not come ... Strange are the ways of the world but it is bound by laws of Action (karma) ... 'Ravana' like characters may be successful initially but 'Rama' like character will ultimately win; Again along with good intentions ... gift of the gab, knowledge, wisdom, intelligence and character are also required to reach to the top and your potential Moreover you need to be diplomatic like Sri Krishna to beat the cunning diplomacy of Shakuni mama

The Truth to me is Everything is fare in Love and War. And Now i am not able to figure out a third situation where i am Neutral. So to me either you are in Love or in War you need to save your own a%# to be spanked from because to justify a situation which makes you a good human being could turn out to be otherwise for somebody else. Eg. A murderer is not a murderer if he was trying to save himself form being murdered... then he is a Hero even if he killed a bread earner son in a family who was an angel for his family... Leaving behind the philosophy I would still say I want to be a GOOD HUMAN being but Good enough to justify it to the purest soul on earth.

Honesty pays no doubt! Being good pays a little lesser than honesty! But being honest and good does not always pay RICH DIVIDENDS! Simple reason being that the world around us is not GOOD only. Its got people who are ambitious and will stop at nothing to get what they want. Such people are called GO GETTERS! I would like to be one of them, ruthless at times or even cold hearted, calculating. Problem is CANNOT! My teachings, my genes and the ideals that my parents have imbibed in me do not ALLOW me to be that! But frankly I think its better to give a brick for a brick and bat for a bat!! Survival is the key in todays world! So survival of the fittest by Darwins rule should apply. Being crafty, manipulative, cunning, dishonest are not the idealistic attributes, but applicable whn and where necessary. It should not become a way of life, otherwise to tell you all a fact, there is more LOYALTY amoung thieves than within the LAW ENFORCERS!!

In today's world when u want to reach the top or come up in life..Ur golden heart alone will no do..Although you may be very good person..and I know that usually people who are good are too shy to move ahead and grab opportunities if someone else is ahead of them in line..they would rather prefer to allow that person. Ur goodness will be noticed only if u show that and it is very natural when Ur good at heart u don't want to show and this action of urs will keep u behind. I have witnessed many cases when good people are left behind and the people who have more smartness and capability of accepting opportunities, bearing risks are given chances. Being only GOOD does not serve any purpose. In the competitive world of today we have to have talent..shud be smart enough to show that talent along with the good heart...so I feel that being good alone is not sufficient.People who are at the top today know better that sirf this golden heart will not work out sucess.

Everything does work. What is Good or Bad depends on individual perspective. It cannot be defined. It is like one man's food is another man's poison.
We define good if we 'feel' good about it and bad if we don’t 'feel' good about it. So it depends on the feel of the person. Also in many cases the individuals are never made aware of why they were not promoted or retained and that is perceived as a bad thing to happen. There is too much philosophy here for me to put it in few words. But overall, yes, everything works.

Being a good or bad person is something inside of us. In spite of being a good person we should have an urge which push and rush us to prove our capabilities. On the other hand we should think about the surroundings...where are we... what are we doing? Career is an progress through life and we cant achieve it by practising cunningness.
Career is something like an part in our life where we can make ready to face the challenge and to prove to others. Nowadays ppl are aware of everything and the one who with bad deeds cant achieve anything. For his/her eyes life is an virtual element. The word good huming being says that you shoud be good to your family, friend, classmet,your pears, your people at work. It is really easy to give advice to any person,and the difficult one is the shelf actualisation. If we go through the life of any person we can find a incompleteness and it is the main function of life. So no work or achievement can give you a saturation upon your hope and expectation. So when a person lives into a depth between science and destiny,can only understand the fact of honest behaviour and moral victims. Kalyug is made by us and it can be only modified in reverse as tritya,dwapar and satya by our own effort and ultimate thinking.Just think about your existance with this Universe. You can measure your work,strength,achievements,and end. In fact we do not fight ,it is our thinking which force us. So it all depends upon your thinking and your experience on any particle exists. A wrong work requiers 100 more to prove it correct. So try to do it when you can capable to face 100 more critical situation for your success.

heBeing good is very important for any kind of progress, but then being aware of good and bad I believe is a phsychotic trap one gets into for each ones personal reasons. Being good is a state of mind which one need to develope young and go from there. Being bad is alos is another state of mind which some develope as the grow making it their preoccupation. Such persons tend to develope behaviors deviant from normal and tend to be candidates for phychosomatic diseases other than old age sicknesses. If a person tend to get hospitalised or need more rest and relaxation while work then definitely something is wrong the way the person thinks or does things which makes whatever he does bad. Then I feel one should grow out of age to level where this question of good and bad never sprout yp in lijfe or in the environment one lives in to enjoy all the goodness life offers everyo ne, some accepts it and others make their lfie a living hell. Some reach certain level of deviation that they don't even recognise the state they live in may be due to developmental problems.

You may all say that I am getting a bit philosophical. You all are arguing that to reach the top, we should leave no space to others. This I think is the meaning of being street smart. At this stage, we should ponder on the question whether we have genuine talent to manage at the top. If we do have the talent, we may reach a little late, but we will - even if we allow space for others to compete with us. If we do not have the talent to manage at the top, our fall will be so fast and bad that we will hardly be able to recover. What do we do after we reach the top? Stay there? Or look at other vistas to again reach a leadership position? Where is an end to this? We will all reach a stage where on our death bed, we will have some regrets on the way we led our lives - if we have ignored the sense of goodness in our daily lives. I have seen lot of people dying and am yet to come across satisfactory death. I dont believe in life before birth or after death. I would like to allow space for others and make efforts to reach the top. I have been a victim of street smartness many times but have no regrets.

Good/Bad Person is a judgement or decision or impression based on situation felt. Why? Teacher beating a kid or scolding a kid -> Teacher is a bad person to the kid here. If the teacher did that only and only to correct the kid and make him careful. I would not say the teacher is bad. So is also the nature. Try walking on a coarse ground /Stone Road after drinking you trip yourself and fall down at one point ...is the stone road bad or nature is bad for making you drink or is nature again bad ? that it gave you only two legs? So in this matter , Good and Bad are always relativ. It is a clear thing observe this : To tell a lie is bad. Vedas say it different : Speak the truth. Don't speak even truth when you know it only hurts ( hurt is not only for the second person , it can also be for oneself). This is where though a truth if its going to create a havoc , dont talk it out. Controlling the mouth is same as controlling one's activities. According to me Good is : Dont do anything knowingly for your benefit or benefit of others, when you know it can harm a innocent. To be in simplest form : Being good is not spoiling environment , for next generations also need to breathe and live...its should be that good , all other things are bad!
