We are missing out a very fundamental issue. To enter into political arena and to sustain yourself in it requires huge funds. Where do they get these funds from? Businessmen fund them profusely to get their interests guarded for five years! Obviously, they would come in open, they require characters like Radia! Change People Representation Act and go after every politician to check their funding status, before announcing their results! If the means of funding for election are found to be from dubious means then bar their candidature instantaneously and declare the next person who found to be clean elected! Of course, who will bell the cat?

When checks and balances are not placed and too much is left to discretion. When accountability is not adhered and When punishment is rare, delayed and weak such practices flourish.

Lobbying used to be done by a group of people openly for change in Govt.policies and to bring certain exemptions to rules.Corporates engaging individuals are only agents to "DEAL" with Govt.depts. and calling them LOBBIESTS is a misnomer. We do not need agents if the dealings are forthright and transparent.

People in Government dont want to get caught red handed while accepting bribes and if possible dont want get caught at all. That is why middlemen come in to picture. People in power want them and People who want to get either favours or just want things to move fast legally also want some one who can ensure things happen either with payment or legally but fast. Many a times documentation for getting license, funds, subsidies permissions etc are one time requirements and the corporates wants to outsource it just because they dont want their employee to be disturbed from his productive work. Thus the so called Consultants / Lobbiest comes in to picture. So there is a guinine requirement of a Consultant/Lobiest. What is required is transparancy in our system.

It's like the petty or cornor shop collects the money outside the govt office or traffic signal. They politicians don't want to tarnish their image when they caught. Media can call them as PR, in simple words they are high level brokers, who spoil our economy without any mercy. To answer your question, it is difficult to get rid of them from the system. They don't support any party. They are powerful enough to point out who can be part of ministry and who can be in high govt posts.

Yes Yash, these people are the main link between corrupt politicians & bureaucrats. Basically they are wheelers & Dealers disguised as PR consultants & Lobbyists and front men/women for the business & interest of the corrupt politicians,Bureaucrats who has invested their ill-gotten money thro' them. But they realize their mistake once they have been made as scapegoats & original culprits goes scot free. Once things are cool-down the same people will lookout for another Nira to carryout their illegal activities. Since you cannot pinpoint the actual lobbyist with corruptible motive.

Its impossible to eliminate the corruption in the present world. It has become a universal truth. India still have better chance than other nations if we go by " bottom down" first the politicians (ministers & members) then the bureaucrats. That's as of now a Distant Dream.
