I am of the opinion it will  not be possible to ban. Actually nowhere in the world it has been banned.

It is a full fledged industry and lacs of people earn their lively hood from this trade.

The government is going for more stronger pictures on the packets so that people may leave. But it is not to be.

This is in itself a serious issue.

Mr. Rathin Deb

I completely agree that nobody cares of the packet but the brand, Even if they put most deadly picture on the packet it won't affect the smokers as before or after or in course of smoking nobody is concerned on packet looks but the taste of the cigarette. Hence no effects at all.

Apparently I think that it must be left to individuals for selection of options that whether to be a smoker and invite the death slowly or live the quota of life happily without spending the extra money on purchasing the slow poison. Well I had the options but I selected the usual wrong one but still I motivate the people of it's ill effects and when they counter me I give the answer that "If I hang myself will you?"

There are many a times govt. come out with fine for smoking in public places, i don't think that any ban works on smokers. It is the mentality that we have to change.

It is not possible to ban smoking completely, as we are lacking in social responsibility. Thanks for referral, Dhairyakumar.

Even without enforcing a ban, comparatively the smoking habits are now coming down. People are feeling averse about smoking. It may come down further in near future. A healthy trend. But, the alcoholism is gaining. Alcoholism in women is the new trend.

I agree with Mr. Kandadai fully enforcement is not possible in India. There are so many reasons behind it.

Enforcement is always india's weekest link! We have least crewdibility in that area. It is very difficult to enforce a blanket ban on smoking. You may be able to ban it at specific locations of reasonable size....but beyond that...no way

The smoking is useful and stress removing technique so it is a good thing. Now with every good thing you get the bad things and it is quite natural. So let's be positive and see the benefits. SO PLEASE NO BAN ON SMOKING.
