There was never a need of convent education to 'bharatiyas'. They were far more scientific & educated then the convent educated. for eg. Bhartiyas knew plastic surgery 2600 years before the convent education. Even today the so called convent educated doctors used same patterns, instruction and tools of plastic sugery.

Bharata's empire covered all of the sub-continent- Bactria, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Persia according to the Epic Mahabharata. Bharata was the son of- mother Sakuntala and the father king Dushyanta. In his youth Bharata became the king. Young Bharata conquered and ruled the entire continent from sea to Himalaya. His empire was named Bharatavarsha- the land of Bharata. Bharatavarsha refers to the whole of modern India and many other countries which did not exist then.He was one of the few emperors to rule all of former India or Bharata which was much bigger than modern India. Bharatakantam is the region which is contained in Bharatavarsha comprising modern South Asia. The word India is a western transliteration of the Sanskrit word 'SINDHU' meaning body of water. The term is derived from the name of the Indus River and has been in use in Greek since Herodotus [4 th century B.C.]. The terms appears in old English in the 9 th century and again in modern English since 17 th century. The name India may refers to either the Indian sub-continent, the contemporary Republic of India or the region of Greater India. India became popular as a first name in the age of British imperialism, often to show support for the colonization of the sub-continent. The Republic of India has three principal short names, in both official and popular English usage, each of which is historically significant. All originally designated a single entity comprising all the modern nations of the Indian sub-continent.These names are India and Bharat. The first Article of the Constitution of India states that India, that is Bharat, shall be a union of States. Thus India and Bharat are equally official short names for the Republic of India. Indians commonly refer to their country as Bharat, India depending on the context and language of conversation. Thanks for the referral Mr.Ankit and Ms.Asmita Rai.

Indus valley civilisation was the earliest known civilisation according to history. All those living near Indus were called Indians by the historians. This has got nothing to do with rule of mughals, british etc.

Hey, Certain PROPER NOUNS are derived by its association with so many things such as culture, geographical location, rivers, people behavior, people out-look etc. So it is called. May be from word the INDUS etc. But, where is the doubt in it. Every country derived names like that from one reason or other. The people lived there as Indians. Do not you see calling DELHI GUY as Dehite etc. I do not find anything quioxotic.

Whether you like it or don't like it, if you were born in India you would be called "Indian" only! "Indian" of what "region", what "language", what "gender", what "religion", what "status", what "occupation" are these questions that harp on every India's mind that divides our very nature of "Indian-ness"!

'INDIA' and 'INDIANS'. The word 'INDIA' was used by British kingdom to call a 'SLAVE NATION'. The word 'INDIAN' was usually used by them to call people which they think are of low importance or in other words SLAVES. They also used this word for americans on many ocassions at that time, later called Red Indians. We all know these facts. We also know that original name of our country is " BHARAT" named after great king BHARAT, one of the grandfathers of Pandavas. Every country on this planet uses the name defined by their great ancestors. We "BHARATIYAs" are the greatest civilization on this planet. our ancestors invented the subjects mathematics, economics, martial arts, medicines, astronomy, astrology.... and almost every main subject which this world uses even today. Is it not a disrespect to our ancestors who tried so hard so that their childrens can live with their heads up, And to ourselves to introduce ourselves by such words which depicts slavery?

Indus valley civilization not only covered Hindustan but many neighbouring countries as well. Should we also call them also India? The whole Bharat is Hindustan. Not just the northern part. Hindustan is not a subset of India.

Our country should be called Hindustan. If you dont agree, just talk to any person from our neighbouring countries. They call our country Hindustan and us as Hindustanis. This name also rhymes with the names of our neighbouring countries - Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kazhakistan, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. Historically, there was no India. It was Bharat before the British occupied our country.
