Leaders are people who can inspire the mass to FOLLOW them!! But how can you identify a leader? There can be only one person in a pack who has the skill set, who has the ability to get his teams attention, who can lead by example and who has proven time and again that HE and only he can be looked upto for getting things done in the RIGHT way! Circumstance can be a great teacher. Leaders might find themselves in situations where decisions taken would either hurt or heal a process! Leaders look upon more experienced leaders to help them come to a decision. Leaders are also vulnerable and NEED honing their skills from time to time. In a world where technology leads the way forward, adding more skills and more knowledge would make LEADERS lead the way better!

No body is the master in all field, he may be a jack of all trades, means knowing about all but not in deapth. Team leads the organization objectives, team leader leads the team. Team members individually should have the mastery in their subject, and team leader have the understanding of the all subjects.
So any team member may act as a leader to some extent if whole team is convinced to take a step. Important is objective and action to achieve it.

I think what's important here is the Organisation. If one feels that he/she has needs to guide/lead the leaders in a particular aspect which would benefit the Organisations, one should always be allowed to do so. However, the one doing it should realise that its not a simple task, he/she should have enough data to prove his/her point. Intuitions and sixth sense wont work in these situations.
Jokes apart, my point is, if one has enough data and skill, then he/she should take the initiative and guide/lead the leadership whenever necessary and if the leadership is still not receptive, that is not the place for you, contact me.

hello all,
I will try and have a go expressing what I understand about the subject; a good leader is a good team worker: he understands the process of work and knows how to delegate tasks, which means he understands what the task and the work within a setting and frame are and he knows how to get what he wants achieved and changed within a frame that is dynamic anyway. Leadership means understanding dynamics and understanding the specific roles of those contributing to the dynamics in an evolutionary way. A leader is the best learner. Leading means learning and knowing exactly what it means to be lead in a good way. Leaders can rotate and switch roles. They are not holding to power, they are admitting its existence and guiding power, focussing on the achievment of precise goals.

Dear Anurag...
I believe its whole new set of challenges when managing other leaders as there is likelihood of high friction if you don’t manage relationships carefully. This task is more difficult than first meets the eye. Many successful individuals who have led middle-managers or a hierarchal corporate executive team have failed when given the task to lead other leaders.
This critical questions are coming into my mind when we talk about Leaders leading other leaders..... How do you provide a vision that other leaders will support? How do you make a group of recognized leaders with their own individual egos a team? How do you negotiate turf wars and power struggles among other leaders who have the independence to move on if they are unhappy? How do you educate people who already think they are smarter than everyone else? How do you motivate leaders who are emotionally and monetarily secure to do what is right for the organization's future? How do you manage outside consultants and lead leaders at the same time? Finally, how do you establish and keep the trust of other leaders?
It is not an easy game but there are Successful Leaders who were able to solve all this......

I have to agree with anurag sir.... There should be a process like this. Otherwise how one can groom or see successful leaders more. Leading the leaders as its own importance but it should be done in a positive manner with showing them the right direction. It is too easy for anyone to get deviated . Sadly, in many organizations, every day, behind the closed doors of plush administrative offices and boardrooms, many senior managers are suffering the devastating impact of a "leader-bashing" leader.
The effective leader of leaders, however, should able to inspire this guy and get superior performance from him. Sir can you simply put, how great leaders know how to lead other leaders.....????

I think we need to understand the whole functioning of leadership. I agree to the fact leader should have the caliber and leadership qualities and should be leading the team. But there are situations, time and requirements where a good leader takes the guidance and feel of the team and believes in the participative philosophy of leadership and working as a team. But if a leader is all the time looking his team for the decisions, approach, then he is a follower, not a true leader.

The point relating to leadership is really and quite worth while.... I do appreciate pointing out this utmost important instance/phase of leadership... I opine that the best way to lead the group of leaders is to facilitate them as a coordinating point of view in such a methodology so that they can itself become able to decide on that matter... if you penetrate or get involve with them at the same time you may be considered as a competitor or inferiority factor will arise and equilibrium position of system may get unbalanced...

Manju, i appreciate, You have a valid Argument that we all are Leaders in our own space (but no super human) however the perspective is that leaders need leading too...while at time we are led by others there are situations when we take charge and lead despite of the domains and dimensions of our scope....in a way we have said the same with different representation! A leader by virtue of being in capacity of a leader is not always right/perfect....
