Yes, I think so Mainframe computers' era will come back soon. Because now a days, people have started to work on thin client, so that burden on client must be low, and also in this era web technology which has proved that you can sit any where and work anywhere. I think so this kind of flexibility is not given in any other kind of applications. So, soon Mainframe computers will come in to the market.

I have a bit doubt on your above comments , I do agree that we are coming with new powerfull smaller  sys , but in near furture like 20 years or may be many more  mainframe will  LEAD in critical business world . Some time back when distributed computing were emegred IT pundits predicted that mainframe will go obselete  ; but thanks to IBM continious growth in its capability and n+1 rule .  More over if you have any link /info abt the coming sys you can provide the URL here ....

Yes Mainframes is making a comeback of sorts, because the IBM's introduction of specialty engines for running Linux and Java is a significant reason for me. "Mainframe users now can run hundreds of Linux virtual machines on a single box. This not only saves on hardware spending like power, space and cooling  but it can dramatically reduce site license costs as well. So yes it is making its comeback for sure.....

According to me yes it is making a comeback in a sort of its own way,  Because some types of users and applications need the reliability, security and scalability which is provided by mainframes, and the recent report also says that there is considerable growth in the sales of the mainframes to a double digit, before where it was in single digit. So yes it is making its comeback....

No it is not i don't agree with Arun, There are so many different Operating systems and New PCs which are much faster than the mainframes and they are coming with different configurations and they are completely eating the market for mainframes, so it is just going steady for mainframes, thats it and nothing much is happening there....

May be, but I don't think they would fit into corporate field. Corporate workplace is very different for what they have worked. So fitting into it is very difficult.
