In general sense, management is
the art of handling
the different aspects of the organization. And it is also a type of
science like
the mathematics is a formal science then management is also came in the
category of the formal science. But if take a look keenly then,
management is totally an art. This is an art that how we communicate
with the general people, which came in the management. It is the ability
and art of a manager that handles the organization in well manner and
keeps growing the organization level because of using his abilities.
Let us suppose that a person came to manager in very angry
mode, and after taking to the manager, he is convinced according to the
manager point of view, then it was the art of a manager that he has
handled the customer in a friendly way.
Management is not totally depend upon the manager's ability, it also the
team work of the
other organization members, who contribute there effort for the
organization. Again it is an art that a group of people work together
for so long time and reach to some high level, because of there
managerial skills and abilities.
Mgmt. by Innovation in present times may be in any form is a blend of both art and science it’s the way how we look at things around us & perceive. The more technology we involve in a business the management will be more likely to be a science. As we grow technologically the impact of management will be more scientific because management is directly effected by the types and how the technology is being used on which the developments & results will be dependent...
Science is supporting tools of development and art present the creativity or presentation, and management is all about presentation, so its an art.. By

As per my view, management is both art and science as becoz managing the people, organisation, etc is an art .It is a skill that has to be developed on one's own sense. It is science becos management is implemented taking base of science.
Management is art cause it is connected with different kind of activities in organisation and it is science cause is contains lot of experimental things i.e(Planning and execution of new policy, Analyzing its affects on organisation n many more....) By

If someone serve you a cup of coffee within a time fixed by you, then it is the art or quality of the server who had managed it. If there are 5 customers sitting together asking for separate dishes, then the server has to create a system with a group of people for timely deliver of the same without compromising on quality and safety. The system developed is a techique which we may call as a science. In my opinion, the system is a science and implementation of the system is an art. By

I totally agree that management is an art, because the show runs only on the skills of manager how he manage with his staff and with the customers. Here I would also say it is 9 to 9 formula like courage and consideration. So my strong feeling is management is an art rather then science.
yep management is an art more than science. for exp like in HR management manager manages people of an organisation but everyone is not successful.actully its an art to handle people....sly for material manegement...comes from inside not by getting degree By

Yes, management is an art of getting things done by the people and for the people. You can call it as a oxygen of an organisation. Theoretical knowledge is fine but you can not manage people without practical experience. Thats why management is 70% art and 30% science.
Management is a system of doing a work to achieve a desired objective. The system could be develop through research, experiments, methods, plans in a systematic way, which can be recorded or may not. The system or process developed is definitely a science but its implementation is a art that depends on the qualification and experience of an individual. It is just like preparing a nice birthday cake which is all about science, but its serving to the guest is an art. By

Management by philip kotler who is the Guru of Marketing says..Mangement is science and arts as well, but i think it is more are then science, because whenever we are talking about management we always think about the manpower is its utilisation. So ultimately Mangement is the geeting things done through others...so it is an art more then science. I agree that it applies some rules of science as well to get the things done by others... By

MANAGEMENT HAS TRADITIONALLY BEEN AN ART,FOLLOWED BY OUR FOREFATHERS LONG LONG AGO,MOST OF THEM NOT HAVING BASIC EDUCATION SUCCESSFULLY PERFORMED THIS ART . AND LATER SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS HAVE BEEN ADDED AND THE TERM SCIENTIFIC MANAGEMENT EVOLVED.
Management is an art, which is getting work done through by others. so, mgt is an art which is performing with its parts like planning, organising, directing, controlling and staffing or coordinating.
Management by default is Art. West tried it to look like science and created some basic mathematics around it like operations management, statistical methods etc.. But at the end of the day, it is all about decision making and negotiating with another where a person must have only Art. Science is secondary and plays supporting role.
Management is an art, basically it is very tough to manage all things. But managers have that art to manage all the things properly... By

There should be third category in this debate... I would say Management is a DISCIPLINE, whose two wheels are ART & SCIENCE. It can not run properly with only one wheel.
40% females never been upto secondary school to study Art or Science, but they managed very efficiently their home, their are many examples. It's an art to learn how to use technology for better output. By

management is a only a art because of today ahve globlisation and globlisation means more competation &more competation means more challange ,so according time change self mind and use current methos , technology as per requirment .
Art implies application of knowledge & skill to trying about desired results. An art may be defined as personalized application of general theoretical principles for achieving best possible results. Art has the following characters –
Practical Knowledge: Every art requires practical knowledge therefore learning of theory is not sufficient. It is very important to know practical application of theoretical principles.Personal Skill: Although theoretical base may be same for every artist, but each one has his own style and approach towards his job. That is why the level of success and quality of performance differs from one person to another.
Creativity: Every artist has an element of creativity in line. That is why he aims at producing something that has never existed before which requires combination of intelligence & imagination. Management is also creative in nature like any other art. It combines human and non-human resources in useful way so as to achieve desired results. It tries to produce sweet music by combining chords in an efficient manner.
Perfection through practice: Practice makes a man perfect. Every artist becomes more and more proficient through constant practice. Similarly managers learn through an art of trial and error initially but application of management principles over the years makes them perfect in the job of managing.
Goal-Oriented: Every art is result oriented as it seeks to achieve concrete results. In the same manner, management is also directed towards accomplishment of pre-determined goals. Managers use various resources like men, money, material, machinery & methods to promote growth of an organization.
management is a science since it has its own principles and relation with human and the world.management teaches its own way of working in the corporate world and in a team.
Management Evolved as an art in the olden days, gradually it has inculcated science also because of the complex problems faced by the managers/companies and they started to use the scientific methods to simplify the complexity of the problems, to find a solution. And at present both science/art are involved in the management. For example an individual tries to attract the audience through different slides in his PPTs (Technical) but unless he expresses confidently and tries to convince with his logic (Art) he cannot succeed. I say management is both science and art.
Management is science which acts as art. Management starts with planning. or u can say different calulations and scientific plannings. This is the basic. Then you have to organise which is in the form of art.
Management is not just Art or Science. It is both Science and Art. Skill in conducting any human activity" is Art and "any skill or technique that reflects a precise application of facts or a principle." is science. Management as a science would indicate that in practice, managers use a specific body of information and facts to guide their behaviors, but that management as an art requires no specific body of knowledge, but only skill. So it is both Art as well as Science
I believe management is science because art may receive results by the point of view of viewer.Where as in management one wrong or inappropriate decision can cause havoc. Hence, the measurement of acceptance of decision, idea is very much necessary. By
Manish Shah, B.Tech/B.E. student, University of Mumbai

according to me managements is the culmination of both the streams...science because its is sometimes its based on facts and figures....art because sometimesit is based on sme philosophies.....
The whole discussion has now turned to glamorizing the debate.Naturally, the people would like to be called artist rather than Manager. The Artist has a flair of drawing imaginary lines converging in to abstract form. And the manager has a bird view to guide the different activities completing each mile stones. The management is therefore evolving every moment adding ,modifying strategy in completing the project.
A agree to concept of Mr. Manish and in addition to this I would say that people take management combination of politics and logics which is part of science too. These all things come through psychology which is Science of Mind. All skills in management made on logics which are a part of this science.
Management is science in its present Avtar because every step you take must be a calculated and must be practically proven, although it was considered as an art due to inherent quality of some individuals who just do it effortlessly and without any qualification but the its testimony of being science can be gauged from popularity of management institutes and their rankings . Management is indeed a science as it is based on facts and established data. Any art form is imaginary and creative, it can take the shape the initiator wants whereas mangement is based on reasoning and sound practice. It deals with interpreting data and forming the resulting strategy.
Art needs in born talent to flourish whereas management can be mastered by anyone who is prepared go into the depth and work on the reulting theory to benefit a business or thought process.
management is definitely science, cannot be considered as art at all. managing an organisation meance he should know the pros and cons. to know that he should be able to act witth int he information which he has in a calculated manner
It is a science, though high practioners of this science are called artists like high practioners in any discipline are rfered as. Science in the sense it tells how things work and those who consistently achieve in this field are called artists.
Management is Science, systematic study always in science. Management is system. Analysis, lessons learn, conclusion, is part of systematic study. Management has not so wide spectrum, has limitations. Limit only consider for science.
Overall Management is not an old, it age is just child, and growing and expanding it wings. If consider it as an art, it may be near to culture.
Why Management is Science and not Art. The management guides different Knowledge areas and control each process groups or method statement. The different knowledge areas need each process group.More elaborately, each process groups helps in achieving the mile stone. So a man with scientific tamper can only handle theses various cross and traverse currents. The Art enters laterally in appreciation of an effort.
Science is innovative complete with new theories and new practices, management is a lot like science. By

We do say management is the art of getting things done as the general definition of management but management in today's world is purely scientific as it requires new and innovative methods to be defined and customized to a particular organization which requires the research and evaluation which is scientific in approach....
Anything which is more systematic is a Science. management is the art of systematically managing any thing. So I am of the view that it is both an ART and SCIENCE
There is a subtle difference between Art and Science. The Art takes inspiration from abstract and creates an effect rather than attempting to represent synergy. And the science:it takes inspiration from evolution. It attempts to checkmate the ill effects on human behaviour through observation and experiments. The management is as such a comprehensive science which continually improves knowledge and method through experience. So shriking management around Art is understatement.
To start off , the greatest art is science ! otherwise , why would budding authors read Shakespeare , budding musicians listen to Mozart , Beethoven ,...
Even in the Indian gurukul system , the fact that the student can learn from the guru means there is some amount of science involved.
Seriously , what is management but the ability to manage one's resources to perfection ; the lesser the resources , and the more the output , the greater the manager. An architectural marvel like the Taj Mahal , or even the pyramids are works of art , but they could not have been completed without the help of science.
Even if we deny all of the above , do we agree that pyschology is a science ? If we do , then what is psychology but the understanding of what makes people tick ? This is precisely what great managers know ; they know exactly what makes their people tick , and this helps them to get the best out of everyone in their team. Naturally , their performance will be outstanding.
The problem with management as a science is the practitioner ! A person at the top very rarely is as objective about himself and his job , as a scientist is. Invariably , his own ego and emotions come into the picture , and this is where things go haywire.
The Management is itself a complete science. As a discipline,it is useful in a wide variety of domains such as software, engineering, construction, architecture and automotive utilization.
Management is considered as a blend of both, but for debate sake i would say it is more of an art ,it is the art of making people more effective ,rather than laying down the process & rules.
management is science and not much of art. anything that is repeatable and decisive results outcome that can be predicted then it is science.
permutation, comunitation that the brain can analyse the data and observations will give the decisions to manage that differs from person to person. hence the management is more statistical driven tool and not emotional.yes human interface is there but big companies tolerance for emote value is very low and figure has to speak for performance.
yes day to day management will encounter more emotional value and not at mega levels.
even is science experiments the results changes the moment the environment changes hence the results of management will change as per the dynamics of environment and not of art.
art is not measurable hence unscientific.the results of management is measurable.
Art is a special kind of science. Leonardo da Vinci was one of the greatest scientists in Europe. One of his principles was that art and science goes hand in hand. Art has the imagination needed to create something new. Science helps you understand which of your imaginary ideas that could be useful for real life applications. Art is usually dangerous for the present power holders in a society, because art usually breaks the present paradigm of how the world is supposed to be working. Leonardo hid all his scientific ideas in his notebooks which was written in mirrored texts, so noone could read his notes. Why? Because everything he discovered was in opposition to the text of the Bible and his main sources of income was from the Catholic Church. Aristotle has a science called Poeisis, where painting, engineering and theater play - which we today consider to be either art or science. It is both a science and an art. We have to learn to say Art and Science instead of Art or Science. Life is lot based on either or. It is based on both and. By

As per my view its a science as it is concern with the state of mind of an individual,so the manager need to study the mind then apply his skill to solve any problem..
