Today everybody is running for an MBA. But can an MBA make a better manager? After engineering people go for MBA for better packages & think that it will make them a better manager someday.....

So, is an MBA required or is it necessary for managers??

I think its true that managers need an MBA. The situation that prevails in the market now demands an MBA manager rather than non MBA's.

I don't agree...An MBA degree is at best a degree which due to its expensiveness and academic entry barriers attracts the top 5% of the students who are generally good in disciplined academics.

The HR fraternity mistakenly thinks because they constitute the top of the academic populace, especially the premium Management Educational Institutes in the world, they must be good.

As per my concern, its a true. the reason behind this is that MBA candidate know his roll in organization, they are well aware about the environment, competitors, customers, etc. & other environment affecting the business. they are also well educated.

I also believe that it is better to hire a MBA Manager rather than going with a non-MBA manager. Simply because, there is nothing that a non-MBA manager can do & an MBA manager can't, But, after all the studies that he has gone through & by learning from the work experience, there is always a possibility that given appropriate opportunities he/she may do something that the non-MBA cannot do.

MBA is an accessory for an employee to become a manager otherwise experience. Moreover, it provides a panorama of the business environment which makes life more comfort when join in an organization for the graduates. Also, it's not that those who have done MBA can be managers and those who didn't are not, it's the performance that matters. Present day scenario need MBA,We can't conclude that MBA isn't required by looking at the people who've not done MBA(Dhirubhai, bill gates,nilekani..) if it's true then why the young richest did it!!

its a yes and no from my side. MBA gives one added advantage. But the one who is not an MBA has experience about what one learns in MBA. The person might have taken 5 years to reach that postion where as an MBA would reach the same position in 2 years. MBA teaches us what to do, where as the person who isn't an MBA already knows how to do a concept learnt by an MBA.

FOR BEING A MANAGER WHAT WE NEED IS THE CALIBER IN THE PERSON NOT A DEGREE....MANAGER IS ONE WHO COULD MANAGE THINGS ACCORDING TO THE SITUATION...........AND I THINK I COMES WITH THE EXPERIENCE NOT WITH THE STUDY..............SOME STUDENT ARE GOOD AT ACADEMICS BUT THY DON'T KNOW HOW TO TACKLE THE SITUATION.................AND ITS BETTER SAID THAT PRACTICE MAKES A MAN PERFECT

The main thing which is required for the managers is 'confidence' which comes from knowledge. Knowledge can be gained without MBA also. But MBA helps in gaining relevant knowledge. So it is helpful in present complex business environment, but not mandatory.

yes ,I have a mixed argument,The world we live in is full of abnormalities ,for some people the have a power of decision making[Thats what MBA is all About]on their own but for some this power is acquired by experience as well as from learning , Now this dosent have to a class room one ,It can be acquired in the field while working. So Folks MBA is Required for an individual to become the best may be class room oriented or from their own experience

my vote goes for the MBA.

i think to b a good manager u must have an mba but only if u r a amanager ian a corporate firm or any retail or marketing or advertisinf organisation.

but if u want a manager in a technical organisation like BHEL OR ABB u must need to have a manager with technical background and vast experience.

I don't say that MBA is necessary or mandatory but having MBA is an add-on to your quality and knowledge..having MBA will help you to take any decision with some base and logic..will help you analyze on the prior basis consequences of any decision..I agree with rahul that if MBA doesn't required then why these IIM students are receiving better position as well as package

MBA is really not required for managers, as I visualize MBA is only the management tricks to fix the salary. Just for example one of my friend is running an institute to train MBA graduates, he is just a Diploma holder with more than 20 years of experience in the industry. The candidates should get the training form industrialist rather than MBA institute. MBA institutes are Money making Business Agencies

MBA should not be the minimal criteria for being manager; but good MBA study obviously helps to groom anyone towards managerial role. Throughout the life everyone is being learned in various facet of learning but MBA is one of the most integrated ways of learning with practical approaches and practices which helps anyone to acquired skill to become a better manager.

MBA does not make you a manager but can only teach you to be one. What makes you a manager or a better manager is LIFE. And this statement is from a grad. whos completed a regular MBA course as well as a distance one. Yes, MBA gives you the opportunity to make that extra money that your peers would certainly envy for and an edge over others to get recruited in a top notch orgn.

BUT BELIEVE ME MBA IS NOT A ONE-STOP-SOLUTION FOR  MANAGERS. ITS JUST A TICKET TO A COMFORTABLE LIFE AND NOT A LUXURIOUS LIFE THAT ONLY MANAGERS CAN DESERVE.

in the world the most difficult task perform without mangers. like growing of plant or fly of bird. The world top business man rarely got mba when they had made millions of dollar. the world top scientist rarely got the education in very high institution. as i came to know the purpose of education is the birth of concept in mind but in these days education is producing another thing called ego. many people only think they are higher because they got some degree and other dont have that degree. Even I saw the peoples in situation where a new person presented a new concept in interview but he didn't select because he did not give the answer that the interviewer read thousand time in the book and he is not able to accept that there can be a new concept other then book too. what a hack?

I am pursuing MBA & by reading i found that the ideas given in books have no more resemblanec with the practical issues. You have to think by own to solve any practical problem. So I disagree that MBA is required for managers. However it is essential in some of cases for promotion only to fullfill the psycological think of recruiters or boss. Manager means who manages tacfully the situations. For this quality MBA is not necessary. MBA just add a degree and some extra knowlege to your career. this is an inner leadership quality. By MBA we can learnt how we improve our manager skills but no body can teach us how to manage differnt situation in real time. Such time no book theories will work only your mind and your soul wiill work and give you a command that how you will you manage that situations.

In the practical life, the nature of thoughts one generate within are actually reflecting or manifesting outside in one's action, approach and behavioour and accordingly one manage activities in the outer world. Any one may be a better manager irrespective of qualification one possesses. It is not at all necessary that a MBA may be a better manager. I appreciate Poonam's creative thinking.
