We see Rani Mukherjee making statements on women and the headlines are Rani says "Women are kickass"! We see a page full of what-celebrity-wore at Oscars.. We also see pics of Kareena kapoor with her finger encircled and article titled "Is it her engagement ring"!! Why didn't we see the news of Haryana's first women only BPO at the first page?? Why don't we hear the story of the Obama'a of Maharashtra in those newspapers?? (Thank God we see all that here at toostep!!)

http://idiva.com/media/content/2011/Mar/kareena_kapoor_engagement_ring.jpg  http://indianmilitarynews.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/indian-female-woman-women-soldier-army.jpg

But isn't this ignrance of media.. Only for few days around Women's Day we found few articles about the REAL problems of women.. Isn't it unfair? There are two things I need to ask through this debate.. Is the media actually anywhere helping women?? If not then how to make it help?

It all depends upon your point of view,of course, the media is definitely helping the RaniMukherjees,KarishmaKapoors etc who are also women,by the way,in getting the much needed oxygen of publicity. It also helps those women who prefer to live in a dream world of their own,and aspire for those lifestyles,in order to rise above their mundane lives.Reality bites, hence glitz and glamour are kind of an opium for the masses. So,in a way, instead of focusing on bread & butter issues, people are watching 'circus' to forget their troubles.

If media does not focus on the problems lets raise the points on the editorial "MY Voice" section. If the response from general public is good.. The media will have to act upon it..

Media never help either Man or Woman, but they help themselves to increase their Paper Circulation or TRP ratings."if a dog bites a person, it is common; but if a person bites a dog it is sensation". So the media try to develop sensation among public obsolutely for their sake. From their point of view, matters concerning woman are more interesting. So they add cheese and honey for the topic to build up tempo and enthusiasm. They intrude into their privacy, family, friends and social circles. If they are really concerned there are so many woman suffering under Below Proverty line without proper food, shelter, education, medical help and rehabilitation. Are we able to see these news either in News Papers or T.V.Channels. No, Never. Every channel has a political linkup either with ruling party or opposition party. They through dust at each other.Media became totally partial either to one Region or other to flare up regional passions, relgious passions, languistic passions and so on. These are hot and never ending emotional topics. Peoples' problems are rated below cricket and politics.

Yes it helping women but not completly.Say frankly this is a best chance for media to increase theri PRP ratings based on this news. They raised points but their presentation of the news is different.Becoz when they will telecast the news is intresting then automatically PRP will inchreased.I mean the way of presentation is wrong, becoz by that presentation womens and their familymembars are suffered alot...so finally what I want to say that Media helps women with business orientation..

The media has been going on and on about the few rape cases in city of Delhi. This is sensationalism. If they were serious they would have covered the problem that is even more frequent in villages of Bihar, and UP. The media can play a very substantial role in improving their lot. But they will not. As it will not increase their TRPs, it will be a strain on their financial and human resources. It does not make business sense. Sad! Even a rape or eve teasing today is calculated in terms of hard currency notes.

Now a days, we find that media is also busy in BUSINESS.  It  is not WISE to allot  IDEAL role to MEDIA and expect them to  GUIDE /EDUCATE the society. It is the season of paid news /sensationalism. Media too comes under committed business houses. They serve their  interests.Journalists/the business houses (they represent)  are no longer the mentors leading us to form a better society.Women too are treated as a commodity and hence they too  are the victims. There is nothing to expect from the media.

Media is only after sales nowadays and sales it garners through sensationalism. So a woman BPO or a Obama in maharashtra is not sensation. And forget having any delusions about the media helping either women or anyone else. They only beleive in helping themselves and filling their coffers !

Whatsoever shining business , a media is doing. It eludes away from the crux of womans' problem & remains exploiting them for their prosperity. Adorning the Celebs' life alone is not the media role. Amp tin number of issues where it can, constructively, coach them. But , it is not done

Media has to mix the news in order to sell. That is exactly what they are doing blending the news. I anyway agree with your point of view Kavitha.

No, never, media is never help to either men or women as said by Mr.Manjunath. Without media's selfishness or benefit, they are not not help to any other. So, do not depend on media or do not expect that media will help. It is a corporate business and whenever media feel benefit, media will follow that side (benefit side)..
