the internet was supposed to overtake newspapers decades ago, but nothing of the sort has happened. Nicholas negroponte predicted that decades ago. The whole print act will have to be re-done if it has to survive the impact of the internet.

That exactly is the point I m trying to make. Internet shall have its own potential with exploration and convergence of new technology. The information gathering and communication shall get faster. But if u think very objectively, I still believe that given a chance to watch any breaking news or entertainment do, I or almost all shall prefer traditional media, that is television. Secondary, in Indian context, one TV set can cater to the family and they all can see, say, live cricket match, on the wider screen on their television. Internet shall remain an individual specific or profession specific, but u think ofaudience in collective way, internet in short or medium term shall not be able to overcome television.

Well I do believe that internet is futuristic media with great potentialities, but so far as journalism is concerned, (let us distinguish between journalism and mere information), I suppose electronic and even print media shall continue to have upper hand....for their sheer convenience and better visual and coleective audience. Internat is gaining ground in certain specific aspaects but it has a long way to go in competing with core journalism.

I feel ,the Internet furnishes a platform for journalism, but it has not yet been determined if it will be able to provide society with the kind of reporting it needs to remain informed.I think mainstream media has more challenges with the coming of the internet. But cannot say that it is going to cannibalize the traditional media

If you consider the impending technoglogy convergence, Internet would swallow all media. What distinguishes internet from the traditional media are the SEARCH, HYPERLINK, and INTERACTIVE features. Just ask yourself, when is information more valuable to you-when you are searching for it or when its delivered without request?

I think Internet is definitely providing information to the customers at the right time and also its spreading advertising boom, individual journalists who are successfully feeling out the Web, the spread of citizen journalism. This will help Internet as it shows the power of publishing as it gives to everyone; the simplicity of linking to other information; and the ease of finding relevant information with RSS feeds and search.
