No way, ....media is also no t free from corruption and money making strategies like other industries , there is a lot of biasness in its role. instead of focusing on the actual issue it tries to make things entertaining instead of making them informing.

media has pervaded all corners of our lives be it proffesniol, personal, social or everywhere else. wed cannot escape media whereever we are.I would like to differ on a point that media is powerful today but it is not sensitive to the issues. But like everything else things which gain power bercome less sensitive

Yes I am in complete agreement with Shilpa on the subject. To day the media is playing a very vital role in helping not only the Goverment but also the other concerned like judiciary and all others who they are related perticularly the Television as a media is very powerful in order to bring out the actual details. On top of this there is RTI which symbolises good governence.

Media is acting very well and with responsibility now a days. In few cases interference of media got justice to the normal man. You can see so many hidden facts and cases opened by the media. you can forget the little mistakes of Media by keeping excellent working in mind.

The media is currently playing a very powerful and important role. The media has made the public aware of various policy and public issues and thus shapes public opinion. However, inherent bias by the media while disseminating the information may be present and the individual has to check for the hard facts and ignore the other information disseminated by the media....

Yes, you are correct but the media is reacting more in unuseful and more sensitive issues, like direct telecast of Taj hotel firing. It created tension in our people and indirectly helped the terrorist who were monitored from remote areas.

we do see enlightening debates on times now, ndtvx27, doordarshan by arnab goswami, burkha dutt, etc on day to day issues of concerns at the national level - with fearless grilling taking a stance, facilitating a point of view, educating the citizens. at times wonder whether the media has taken to media activism alike judicial activism. the role of media is to inform and educate the citizens enabling them to form their own opinion i understand. however, there are too many channels and some great names once like starnews seem to have taken a back seat from primetime showing astrology, etc, and some channels focus on gaudy sensational news. same news within the same bulletin is repeated again and again in different words and through different anchors making it irritating at times seeming to fill time without value addition. regards/kshantaram

In my view, media has become a tool in the hands of those who are responsible for good governance in our society. As one can see from very few cases that we have come across till today. It seems we are living in a world of hype created by media and picture of real rural India is missing from the front page.

Media is baised and I feel their only aim is to increase the TRP and number of copies. Latest example -NoNews channel gave any importance for the Manipur issue where Naga rebels blocked the road for the last two months. They suspended two days back when centre planned to send military. I was suprised to read that because of this the price of all commodities are incresed multifold, eg: 150 rs for one litre petrol, 60 rs for two eggs. just imagine if it would happened in kashmir, How media will react

The Evil Forces As Usual Have Entered In This Field Too Making The Mockery Of Media's Social Responsibility. The Western Concepts In Media Are Gaining Ground Which Are Making Them Forget Their Basic Role For Which It Should Focus.

No, media become a mean to earn unlimited money and viewership. Most of the news published with adding flavour of sensation. With few cases, media shows responsibility and whole country appreciated them for their effort. Media has enormous power and reach, if they used it with responsibility and sensibility, a revolution will be added in country's future.

Media has of late become very irresponsible and selfish. It only works on gossip, irrelevant news which have more often than not , no relevance with the interests of the public. It always talks in tandem with what the government hems and haws. It has lost its social responsibility completely.

Though i agree media is biased today i wouldnt say they are in a state of submission. Rather they are in a state of commercialisation. Blame it on technology or the high costs, todays nmedia is only bothered with garnering TRP's and the maximum commercial revenue. And leading the pack is one of the frontrunners of the media revolution - NDTV. Nowadays their news telecast are so insipid, repetitive and boring that i have almost given up watching the news. On the other hand newspapers though have survived the digital age not because of the changes in layout or print quality but because there is a growing class of educated gentry that has just got its first dose of education but still doesnt have access to technology like an ipod or a televsion or leave alone subsciribing to internet services on their hand phones. In this pack i would say Radio is the lone survivor and managing to stay afloat again by virtue of it being a late entrant into the scene and having the industry itself opening up in the last decade or so. And what to say about the internet ? It still is a primary source of chatting and reading mails rather than being an information disseminator. Given the above it is hardly surprising that the media is biased basically for want of serious cometition within its industry.

Powerful media is. But they are biased at most of the times and are in total submission. Have you ever seen a media company coming out with a negative report about the company or the individual who controls it. No one is god every body makes a mistake but to own it is big. Media today is the mouth piece of the Political party or business house who controls it through their members or owners. Take for example the Arushi murder case. All the news channels had a preconcieved notion that the father and mother of Arushi are culprits. Look for your self even CBI has not been able to pin them down through evidence. Which proves that their approach is biased.

SORRY SHILPA. MEDIA IS POWERFUL,HAVING AN INCREASING CIRCULATION AND READERSHIP WITH INCREASED AVAILABILITY IN NOOK AND CORNERS OF OUR COUNTRY,WORKING ROUND THE CLOCK,GIVING LATEST INFO USING STATE OF THE ART TECHNOLOGY ETC ALL ARE CORRECT.ONE CAN EASILY UNDERSTAND THE FACT THAT BOTH PRINT AND TV MEDIA (BARRING EXCEPTIONS)FOCUS MORE ON UNPRODUCTIVE THINGS,GIVING SENSATIONAL NEWS OR ADDING MORE SPICE TO IT TO ATTRACT THE ATTENTION OF THE GULLIBLE PUBLIC WITH AN EYE ON INCREASING THEIR BOTTOM LINE/READERSHIP/VIEWERSHIP WITH LEAST REGARD FOR DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE.

Audio-visual Media : In today's scenerio, media is trying to play the role of the 'gossip mongers' of old days who used to supply all odd news in the neighbourhood. In recent, in the "Woman Spy Case" the media was utter irresponsible - they did not even bother to notice that they are handling a case of " utmost confedentiality" .. !! We tend to watch the episode, though of bad taste, live in the comfort of our drawing rooms or office corridors. So many men/women are moving along with TV cameras on the (Indian city) streets to grab visuals - either being free lancers or staff of TV channels. They "feed" us with news repeatedly and repeatedly either distorted, half-truth or truth. We may remember that Lady Dieana of Britain had to give her life in a road accident in France when she and fellow companion were being 'chased' by the photographers ( paparatjis ). We may lodge our dis-satisfaction of such acts by Media, send them e-mails, keep the news paper / channels off, swith to some other TV channel.

No. First media should understand that they should share all the news only with the viewers. Today media is doing many roles like Investigation of Mureders, Investigation of any accidents and keep that showing for next 3 days. Marketing and if necessary criticizing Cricketers. And many things are there, for which media is doing unnecessary for their TRP only.

NO... MEDIA IS BUSY TRYING TO SURVIVE ( 24X7X365 )... YES... this is a fact & a hard fact that, Media is actually playing the SURVIVAL GAME & in order to Win that, they Spare no One & every which Way is Welcome for them. This has resulted in the most Absurd Media Coverage & the Pathetic Shows put up on the NEWS TUBE are avid example of it. MONEY is the name of the Survival Game & that also happens to be the Magic Wand which Pulls the Media in its' direction. The rest of the Time on NEWS TUBE is gobbled by LAUGHTER SHOWS & BOLLYWOOD TRIVIA. Check on if I am wrong, BUT most f the times, U tune in to any News Channel... U will find One of the Above. The GOSSIP they COOK UP is also unpalatable. GOD SAVE US FROM THIS MEDIA MASALA !! Happy Debating Friends !

no media has to improve very much. - for example food ,shelter ,clothing and its ncessities and its lack of delivery thru PDS,hoarding by politicians and so on are not shown or not touched anytime other some stray cases.
- can you believe even today you need 16 hrs of train journey to travel from bangalore to mangalore/udupi and karwar a distance of 300400 kms because we do not have good railway line after free INDIA of 60 years !.what media has done nothing.
- sensationalist of an event or an issue and increasing its TRP is the only goal.social inequality and poor people in poor light are never shown their plight asking for reason of no water, electricity, food, houses, so on.
- government accountability for small and big fruads, fund wastage are never seen light of day.why?
- so many things ,this forum is not enough

How many cases have there been where the media has been proactive and raised an issue before it raised its head ? In almost all the cases , the media speaks with hindsight. Take any stampede or building collapse or accident of any sort ; in how many cases has the media taken up the issue before it happened ? The problem with the Uphaar cinema was there long enough for someone in the media to highlight the issue and force action to be taken , but did the media do anything ? Has there ever been an adverse media report on the Mangalore airport and airstrip in the last 10 years ? Now that the accident has happened , the media is basking in the limelight !
