quite so. they have lost about 5% of their market share globally in the last 2 odd years. Which is alarming. They now are thinking of moving into direct retail space on their own (ala Apple) instead of relying only on their channels.

THANK YOU NAMRATA PATHAK,FOR YOUR INVITATION. THE GENERAL RULE IS,REACHING No 1 POSITION IS EASY, BUT TO RETAIN THE SAME IS DIFFICULT.IT IS ALWAYS EASY TO ATTAIN LEADERSHIP POSITION WHEN THERE ARE FEW PLAYERS AND THE SAME IS VERY DIFFICULT WHEN THE PLAYERS ARE MORE.ANY PIONEER KEEPS ON INCREASING THE PACE AS YEARS PASS BY,BRINGING IN NEW MODELS,SPENDING MORE MONEY ON BRAND PROMOTION,WIDENING THE CUSTOMER BASE,RETAINING CUSTOMER BASE ETC TO RETAIN THE LEADERSHIP POSITION GAINED.ANY SLACK WILL ONLY GIVE ROOM FOR THE NEAREST COMPETITOR AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY TO OVERTAKE AND PUSH THE LEADER BEHIND.

Many other brands have chipped in & gone ahead to further segment the market. e.g. more battery life, speaker phone, 3 SIM cards .. & all these at very competitive price. Bigger players like samsung, videocon etc have also entered with economicla phones.

1. I have an E-90 Nokia. The outer cover is wearing off and the company is arrogant enough not to admit its defect!! 2. In an E-90 with GPRS and Blackberry,I am just not able to attach any files and Nokia has been very kind enough not to help me out. Also Nokia has a problem with Blackberry as a result of which we consumers have to face the brunt!! 3. Good,3D,funky ringtones are just not available for downloading 4. Whenever you download an updated version of 'Ovi Suite',the blackberry-vodafone synergy goes for a six!! 5.While shooting a video from a Nokia E-90,the movie behaves as a step-function while being played later!!!

Yes, now-a-days most of its phones are a failure model. Also, the “N” Series Phones (or most of the “N” Series phones) were a failure. They are overpriced with many junk features and used to work very slowly or hang completely. Also the software that drives these phones were not good and hence these phones failed a lot. Now a days there are a lot of new entrant such as “Micro Max”, “Videocon”, “Orion”, etc., who have come out with good basic phones. Also, Samsung is giving Nokia a major run for its money. Add to this the “G7” mobiles launched by TLC who are a top network marketing company. This company would definitely come to the top with its innovative network marketing technique. However, Nokia have some good phones but don’t have the proper “Thinker” management and designers (people who use common sense) and hence it is not able to come up with great phones that do well in the Indian market place. If this continues, it would lose its market leadership very shortly.

In terms of "leadership" it is No; Nokia is still the market leader. In terms of market share the answer is "Yes", it has been losing its share. As the size of the market grows, the segement of users get diversified, many new players join in with "penetration pricing" policy, the market share of the leader is bound to get affected. It has lost a small share but not the leadership.

If Nokia still has the largest share and there is continual update happening. Mere crowding of market can at best reduce the share and may not remove from leadership slot.
