Yes, online shopping is secure. One must be aware of the Maxim, "Caveat Emperor" i.e. comsumer must always be aware of and if he is then there are no threat in online shopping. There are various secured payment gateways, i have been doing online shopping since long and have faced no issues..

YES but it is a qualified "YES". So far so good. You need to take certain precautions while shopping online.Look at the reputation of the seller, is it part of a large group and yours or someone's past experience etc. You may probably have two credit cards one with a smaller limit like USD 2000 and use this for online purchases and another card with larger limit for direct purchases. This way we can reduce the chances of being duped in online shopping when we have to share certain data of ours.

I agree with Devi and others here that online shopping is secure and till date i have no problems with it and i mostly go for online because here one gets the best buys and some good discount too....and its hassel free one need not go to the store for anything...as E-tailing is gaining momentum...where everything is done just by click.....

Online shopping is one of the best and easiest ways of shopping from the living room or else anywhere inside the home or in the office. Hosted sites and ecommerce sites are tested protected with SSL to avoid online fraudulent. It’s obvious that which saves our time and reduce the mobility from one place to another place. The payment process is also under secured manner.

yes it is very much secure, and the recent trend to go by that is e-tailing, where people are buying and doing shopping online these days and this e-tailing is gaining more and more importance, where everything is brought to your doorstep with just a click, so everything is internet driven these days and one should have a two round strategy to protect his personal information over the internet.....

Jitena, the trend catching up is due to convenience. But it is not safe. The argument is whether it is safe or not? Not whether it is convinient or not. Can you justify it is safe, taking into consideration that MITM, MITB, Trojans etc. exist and DNS poisining happens in real world? We are not even saying that encrypted passwords can be decrypted - noone des that - a hacker simply sits in between and transmits what he gets from you, and transmits to you what he gets from the site. In this process, once or twice he shows you his page, instead of original, and steals your identity. That's the end...

yes i totally agree with Mr. mittal's comment and it is true that the site which is asking for your credentials..is just collecting the information from the back end and this can be protected by the Mutual authentication process...but can you throw some more light on this subject...as i know very little on the subject....thanks...

Not at all! Think about this - When you go to a site asking for your username and password, what is the password you ask to the site in orer to authenticate the site itself??? Should you not authenticate the site? What is there is a Man in the middle? he takes yr credentials and pass it on to the server and takes info from teh server and shows to you?? You keep submitting your credentials to the website, which may be phished/hacked. There should be a way to authenticate the site and the user, mutually, before the identity cerdentials are shared. Only when mutually authenticated, the conection is trusted and cannot be hijacked by anyone. Mutual Authentication is a must. Unless this, no matter what you deploy, the hacking community will always be a step ahead. I am not aware of any technology that comes close to mutual authentication.

I don't think so that in India it is secure to shop n provide our confidental detail with hope that it wud never be hacked or stealed by anyone..Due to low level of awareness in people, many persons have taken advantage out of them...As we know that lack of knowldge abt security system is harassenin many.
