Yes, it is not sometimes, it is always our country was taken for the granted both internally and externally. These strikes/bundhs at times are compelled by the establishments/managements and the ruling governments, but some times are provocative and self-generated because of gain and selfish attitudes. but as you expressed it is always a common and poor man who is badly affected?!

Whether it is Trinamool Congress protest against land acquisition for Tatas' project or it is bandh after gory killing in Akshardham, it implies one thing- 'disturbance'. All this is expected to be voluntary, but in many instances people are terrorized into participating in a Bandh, demonstrating political grief and hence avoiding public responsibilities. There have been instances of large metro cities coming to a standstill, when due to this normal life is hit. Civil disobedience, damaging public property and creating problem for the common man is not an act of heroism but is merely taking our country for granted.

It depends, if people join the cause and make it a mass movement, then? right to protest is integral element of a free society. let me also add, damaging public property (tax payers money involved) and preventing others from doing their job, should be treated as a criminal activity. how to stop mob violance and how to punish those involved in it? that needs to be looked in to.

Yes, it is right if done in right way and for the right cause. In a democracy freedom of speech and civil liberty is very much needed. It is a different story that now-a-days most of these bandhs (Strikes) are called by political parties and politicians for their personal selfish motives which is unfotunate.

Bandhs and agitation are great medium to demonstrate and voice an issue. Well it is a good medium but at what cost does it come is to be understood. Well it is obvious the system of governance is itself questionable which leads to such a medium of addressing issues. Well reasonable understanding and closer look reveals that it has become more of a political tool by parties to cause disruption and even at times leading to vandalising property and throwing normal life out of control. Recently a forceful bandh unnotified resulted in such demonstration of hooliganism which "aam janta" did not support. Therefore, SC should make bandhs illegal and automatically press punitive action against any one who calls for a bandh.

I would agree to what Ujjwal has said and its all greed that is running this show, look how Hyderabad is suffering from the telengana issue, no point in asking for a separate state, and the way they are protesting is not good, why innocent lives are taken in these acts, just because one thinks that it will make headlines and people will get to know wht it is all about, what about the families which will suffer in the aftermath, one can't blame only people and politicians here, the Government should have a clear cut strategy to negate these effects and come up with a best possible solution and most of the time both parties will not be budging an inch which gives no scope to improve the situation and people suffer, and many times we see these bandhs and all these agitations where there is nothing happening for people or some person who is having mass appeal making all the drama and acting on behalf of people, people are misled and in the end the person comes out clean its the common man who suffers all the time. Most of them think anybody can do anything in India, if law and order is in place and there is no corruption then we will not be seeing any sort of bandhs and strikes in future.

One cannot claim to be exercising his democratic right by violating the rights of all the others.Bandhs have become a real nuisance to the people of India.I REALLY HOPE THAT THE COURTS DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BY BANNING BANDHS AND BY BANNING THOSE POLITICAL PARTIES WHO CALL FOR BANDHS.

POLITICIANS TRY TO CAPITALISE ON PEOPLE"S SENTIMENTS. THEY TRY TO INVOLVE ON SENSITIVE MATTERS. WHAT WE CAN SEE IS MUCH OF THE TIME POLICITICAL PARTIES TAKE ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER TO GARNER VOTES. ULTIMATELY TO GRAB POWER. CREATING SMALL STATES, uLTIMATELY SPENDING ALL THE MONEY FOR BIG ADMINISTRATIVE JOBS OF SMALL STATES .MAKING THE STATE MORE BACKWARD BY SEPERATING FROM MAIN STREAM. ONE AND ONLY WAY WE CAN IMPROVE IS BY INCULCATING THE FEELING OF ONENESS AND LOVE FOR COUNTRY.LET US WORKTOGETHER TOWARDS THIS GOAL WHICH CAN REALLY WORK WONDERS.
