Dear friends, as we can see, these days, the practice of companies outsourcing portfolio construction services, such as tax planning, cash management and risk management is at boom. What is the reason some companies decide to outsource ? What is the negative opinions that some have regarding the outsourcing of portfolio construction services including that companies can provide personal services to clients when handing portfolio construction services in-house ? Is Outsourcing Portfolio Construction the Wave of the Future?

if any specfic area of expertise is required, then ok one can outsource the work but otherwise a company should hire their own so as to coordination and decesion making as a owner becomes easier.

Yes, it is the wave of the near future. The picture of cash management, tax planning, retirement planning, estate planning, education planning, and risk management etc, exists in all investment management . Clients are focused on all of those dynamics, not just the portfolio. Those who outsource portfolio construction as Kemple does passionately agree. They believe it saves them time and empowers them to better serve their clients' overall financial planning needs. While tapping high-quality investment resources at a reasonable cost, Outsourcing creates more competition, helping the companies snare bigger, more sophisticated clients and to win a bigger percentage of their assets. Non-outsourcers are equally passionate about keeping portfolio construction inhouse, arguing that they save their clients fees and provide better performance, and have a better handle on their clients, portfolios, as well as getting great personal

I don't think so. Outsourcing portfolio construction means the different things to different advisors. Some advisors give up control of the entire process. Some take a model and fill in their own managers, or their broker/dealer gives them a short list of managers. Advisors are most likely to outsource to their B/Ds. Outsourcing to third-party providers is less common.

Non-outsourcers remain in the strong majority. While it didn't provide statistics, a significant and growing number of B/D advisers are choosing to outsource this function entirely. Even some of the planners interviewed for this article who don't outsource say they'd consider it in the future.
