yes,its affecting. But,as it is always said, any thing can be exploited either in a good way ,or bad way,it is upto us.technology can be good ,if we not depend on it,but take it just as a help.

Yes! This is definatly killing creativity in our view. I think this is like generation gap. After some more time we will realize that basics are missing.

Overdependency on anything is not good. At this point, it do kill creativity, when we are overdependent but if we use technology in a constructive way. It becomes a symbol of creativity.

Technology is supposed to assist. Today at times it becomes a hinderance. Simple example is that of the calculator. Simple arithmetic that is the bane of all innovation is today not possible without a calculator. Even my "subzi-wallah" is lost without one. Buy some vegetables, he list them down with prices, adds up using the calculator and gives me a figure - say 167/-. Give him 200 rupees, and he HAS TO USE the calculator only to compute the change that is due to me.

Because of technology, we have lost the wll power to think on our own. I agree with Manoj that linking technology to creativity generally is not right. Rather you have to specify clearly what creativity that you are refering to. You cant have creativity in your daily life in any case.

Yes... No machine can replace a man!... Moreover Men should just take the advantages of machines / techonlogy only and not to go under the custody of those!... Becoause they are created / generated by men only!... Men with faulty brain innovetes a faulty / evil machine / technolgy whereas a perfect guy creates perfect one!... So., There should not be overdependency on technology

frm my perspective.ofcourse it is.Today humans want to deal and face situation at a much much faster pace while hungry for more and more and opportunities. While creativity demands time ,certaimly want to slip away frm that way...2ndly like for exmaple..children nowdays feel bore playing outddoor games and play videogames and net games.children do drawing and paint in paint software in pc/laptop.3rdly social networking in internet is again nurturing itselg to be malicious.

Yes definitely it is. The technological advances have definitely equipped us to deal with life more efficiently. But unfortunately our thinking capacity and mind power is reduced in our pursuit to master the use of the technology. Today a average person cannot do with his calculator even in small mathematical calculations. I am sure most of us find our grandparents handle numbers much better than us. If only we could strike the ideal balance between using technology and depending on it. The mobiles, internet and all this innovations can make a huge positive difference to our lives, provided we strike the ideal balance.

Technology specifies and defines. When one is specific and definite, one excludes options. One of the main aspects of creativity is the ability to consider all options and think out of the box! When options are excluded, definitely creativity is restricted.

i support Taniya's argument on the premise that why only "EUROPEANS" are most successful Scientists,Inventors,Discoverers or more creative than "OTHERS" in the Globe. The reasons being in my view is hostile climate they faced and the urge to save themselves. It therefore suggests that creativity is the resultant of "Armageddon".

Respected MR. Nitin aras, Im agree with your opinion but I think we are talking here about interdependency, as we know in our earlier ages we used to design many difficult machines and their parts by not using any kind of electronics.. man has designed gears (of several types) and manufactured it and many such examples..technology is just a support which should be used as a support not on the main stream,,, lathe machines are still lathe machines but only their controls are now controlled using computers and precise motors and other equipments ... similarly we should take the help of technology but should not get totally dependent over it,,,,which is what i think the main motto of this debate..... thanks, (views expressed here are to share knowledge, not to be taken personally)

Depends on what you are refering to. If you are refering to creativity as in drawing or the graphic arts, the answer would be a vehement no. Because technology has greatly improved graphic arts. Even to hold a mouse and draw up something, one needs to have imagination and a bit of creativity. If it is in a general context, then yes, maybe because technology is turning us into couch potatoes. With the latest Apple tab, you can browse through the days newspapers from the confines of your living room without having to step out to buy it from the newsstand and say hello to a couple of friends on the way not forgetting the health benefits accrued in the process. But look at it from the point of view of the designer who helped in designing the Apple tab, that is creativity at work for you. Either way it is both a boon and a bane. One can't exclude one over the other.

Really good debate... Technology not killing creativity... Technology is growing by human's creativity.Taniya what you are saying is also right but not for all. Now a days many creative things happening because of advanced innovations. Technology helping to grow the knowledge in effective way. So the advanced techniques coming day by day. Now a days from childhood itself students are enhancing their knowledge in effective way because of technology. While using the technical products we are getting the inspiration to make the advanced products by creativity. So, Technology is creativity. How that can kill itself???

I don't think so...... To create something new is creativity and technology is the result of creativity. @Taniya - You are rite but sometime, somewhere we need technology. Don't forget we are human, not machine so we can not keep each and everything on our fingertips.

A country which is ahead in technology does not mean that it is lacking creativity. Technology itself is a creation of creativity. Can you say countries like Japan, Germany, USa etc., are lacking creativity ? The answer would definitely be NO. Technology develops creative thinking in humans. It changes the way and influeces how human thinks. The better technology the better would be the way of human thinking. That's why I completely differ in opinions from all freinds who are in the other side of this debate. As far as overdependency is concerned it is not good in the case where the thing in which dependency, has very limited existance and in small quantity, and as it's not a thing rather it's state of mind, creativity in doing, new and better ways of doing and with the help of better tools, overdependency will never do any harm.

Hello MS Taniya I beg to differ. Unlike the Americans we are yet to become techno-friendly, it is very few of us who are gadget happy and know how to use technology to make their creativity better, this is a capability like you need to learn to play guitar and then become an expert, but it does not qualify you to become a sitar or santoor player or expert just because you are a guitar expert. To become a creative writer you need to have good hold on the language same with technology, technology is an enabler. Technology has nothing to do with creativity on the contrary to do some creative activity we can use our technology skill to make it even better or of high impact. Charlie Chaplin was a great actor, unfortunately in his time multimedia effects and sound tracks were absent. So wasn’t he creative? How about Avatar is Sam less creative? Best regards, Thank you MS Taniya for referring. Dear Priya you dont have to scream!!!

In fact using technology, creativity can be enhanced. Just look at diy/maker movement, open source software, flickr users, youtube, and others. Technology is just a tool,it depends on how its applied in your context. Creativity is enhanced if you share, collaborate and expand.

Recently microsoft has introduced silverlight and wp4 with expression blend where technology and creativity can go hand in hand. just catch the bullet train..

Creativity refers to the phenomenon whereby something new is created which has some kind of value. Only a few will have this natural ability. They think creatively and create new technologies, products etc. Others just use the technologies and products. If you have the ability to think creatively, you try to use the technology differently that can lead to an innovation. As Mr. Manoj, rightly pointed out, we the users are becoming lazy and we are not creative thinkers. No creative thinkers sit quietly, their mind go on thinking creatively. It’s a natural phenomena. There is no point technology killing the creativity. Technology may promote laziness.

Though i support over-dependency, It can be detrimental. It all depends on individual goal v/s family goal, community goals. It can be more discrete in subjective assessment in context of physical, mental or emotional goals. In broad sense it must be studied for value addition in outcome of personal growth & sustainability of dexterity & its competency to face challenges in hand & visioned one.

Yes your opinion is correct. The creativity and the process of sequences in technology should go hand in hand. The peoples involved in the creation of technological changes need creativity, imagination, reasoning, and evaluating the results to declare the developments in the changing & continuous process of research and developments. So they create. But on the other hand others are following and applying the technology in practice those who are followers. Every individual has got their own skills & tallent and according to the degree of utilizing the talent they become veteran in their particular field. Thanks for the referral Mr. Manoj Kumar.

Taniya, I am not in agreement with you. Also it is not correct to attribute creativity with arts only. The technology your are talking about is also an art in larger perspective. May be you have heard about state of the art technology. As I feel philosophy has two subdivisions i.e. art and science. Hence you cannot technology is not creative.

Technology always support your creativity...I feel...as an engineer I got a lot of support from technology...yes sometime it blocks your brain and forced to do by the technological means only...specially in calculations... now a days calculation part of an engineer is weak because easy solution is available... but technology development is for good motive... how we take it depends on us... But to check how created things look virtually... technology is really beneficial...

Perhaps, meaning of creativity is being misconstrued here. As a matter of fact, it is the other way round. Development of any technology, per-se, is owing to inherent creative instinct of mankind. Use of technology imparts an ease in our work and therefore enhances creativity to look forward, further. You don't need to reinvent the wheel, do you?
