The perfectionist is bound to be neurotic. He or she cannot enjoy life till he or she is perfect. And perfection never happens, it is not in the nature of things.

I think perfection is relative and so my answer is yes.. I am not sure so far any perfect measure is developed to identify perfection.. Can we analyse the perfection in the smile of a baby? I am of the opinion that perfection is relative and everybody can decide up to what percentage they should be perfect.

Life is imperfect. Only death is perfect. Totality is possible, perfection is not possible.

There is a huge difference between perfection and totality. Perfection is a goal for the future, totality is an experience now. If you can get into any act with your whole heart, you are total. Totality brings wholeness, health and sanity.

The perfectionist forgets about totality!!

If any entity or activity comes under a scope/boundary then perfection is attainable. In case of varied scope and lack of concentration in fulfilling in-scope details its imperfection. Perfection is not always physical fulfillment but its physcial and mental state to be achieved. This kind of perfection can be achieved by fixing a benchmarking and attaining it and also closing the activity. for example believing that sky is blue and iam happy that the color looks great on a sky is great way to make things perfect, so physically the sky is blue but mentally acknowledging that its the right fit is completeing it.

well...I almost agree with shaju...infact as he says its  very personal , situational aswell....

IRONICALLY my definition FOR 'PERFECT' COULD WELL MATCH WITH YOUR DEFINITION OF 'IMPERFECT'..........

If God is perfect, God-like is what we all strive to be. So trending towards perfection is a honorable goal.

For practical realities of business, perfection is relative (like Shaju states) and it relates to "best-in-class" for the activity chosen. From this perspective, I support perfection.

Perfection, to me, is performing or behaving as expected. When to err is expected out of human naturally, God has made him like that, then, in my view, it is just perfect to make mistakes.

I deliberately want to keep the absolute definition of perfection in shelf....that makes life a lot more easy.

Vivek, I don't know why you asked me this question (when "to err is human" then how can making mistakes be termed as imperfection?) since I am supporting perfection is not possible. However, I will attempt to answer your question. It is expected that human will make mistakes because no one is perfect but that does not mean it is acceptable. The fact remains once you make mistakes you are not perfect.

I still believe that a person can be be  perfect in many ways but not in every aspect of their lives. Therefore no one is perfect.

How do u know God is perfect!? And if HE is, his creations should also be perfect!? And WE are the creation!

Cheers!

Why not, agree with Satwinder. If we excels in what we does, put right things at right place; we are happy. It could be the perfection that made us to succeed and be happy.

Frnds I am little bit confused, Is this thread is for attaining complete perfectionism in all arena or in any single one.

If its for single arena, then yes defintely perfectionism is possible. me you and every person we know can attain perfectionism with perfect practice, smart & restless work, learning from our own faults, behaving proactive and innovative.

But if this thread is for attaining perfectionism in all arena than no one in the entire history and in future also will attain the tag of perfectionist.

As Shri Ajay Ziz Ji said lincoln, charles shobraaj, carlos the jackal, pandit nehru, adolf hitler attain the tag of perfectionist, its true but only in single arena not completely in all arena, they were not good in playing Table tennins, International Business Development bla bla bla....

so attaining perfectionism in one or two arena is possible but not in whole.

Haven't you heard of a perfect score in swimming dive or gymnastics or shooting (10 out of 10) or similar events or some similar activities ... and yes perfection is relative and as per the defined attainments of results and  performance !

And, I am inclined to think and believe that it is possible (possibility thinking !) and we can always strive to attain or achieve that defined performance and feel happy, contended / satisfied and whole within and we need not become neurotic ...

Do we not know that Creation, Existence and Nature is perfect and we are made in the image of our Creator (The Spirit !) and therefore as a possibility, perfection is always possible within the framework of defined performance and parameters and we can always strive to the extent possible and feel complete or total in the now of the performance and living ! and there is no conflict or friction or neurotic ism involved ...

Else, if we don't have possiblility of perfection ... then nobody will / can work to improve on anything and there will be no improvements, but at the same time perfectionism is like Infinity and it may not be generally attainable and yet we must strive for it and go for better and better levels of perfection ...

Perfection can’t be measurable in numbers. It is highly psychological and emotional. Perfection definition defers from one to another. The perfect person as per you is not necessarily be perfect to others as well. It’s all about giving your best shot. For me as well it’s relative. Depends on the point of view

I agree with the thing that Perfection is measurable and relative. And it can be achieved by following activities:

- Knowing you are in the right direction
- Doing things which are right and pleases others
- Balance your attitude with your behavioral skills, probably a little acting too!
- Measure each activity to find it's impact on others
- Once you are happy with the things you do all day, you will feel perfection coming to you..
- Positive thinking from the sub-concious mind is another big tool which can be used to achieve something what others call - Perfection!!

I prefer to read few books on positive thinking and power of subconcious mind, etc which will helps in building emotionally perfect!

Cheers!

"being complete of its kind and without defect or blemish" - Definition of Perfect on the web!!

Now isnt that interesting!! Have you ever heard a girl / lady exclaiming,"Its Perfect!"... YES! This phenomenon only happens when a man has rightly gyessed the womans mood and then yaken her shopping, gifted her a necklace of her choice, taken her on a cruise, a champagne evening, flowers sent to her unexpectedly, gifted her a cadbury chocolate... the only remark that you can hear after this is "Its Perfect!"

Perfection is possible only in domains that you know you can master!

charles shobraaj

carlos the jackal

pandit nehru

genghis khan

adolf hitler

they are per fect , are enigmatic , are psychotic , neurotic but then they are what they are and we all read and watch them

so personally i feel that either become pandit nehru or charles shobraaj and not  middle man like us who can't be famous and successful like them and have to be content talikng & writing about the perfect people whether +ve and/or -ve

No body can be perfect in everything But every human being has the talent and capablity and hence is perfect at one particlar area. Yet there are people who are perfect in many areas right from morning to evening and thats because of there POSITIVE thinking and timely planning and  lots of practical way of thinking. If a human being is MATURED enough by his way of thinking then he is not just a perfectionist he is the best among them.

IF DEATH WAS PERFECT THEN THERE WONT BE ANY LIFE AFTER DEATH.THERE IS LIFE AFTER DEATH HENCE DEATH IS NOT PERFECTION.DEATH IS A COMMA,LIFE IS A NEVER ENDING PROCESS,THERE IS LIFE AFTER LIFE.DEATH IS A DESTINATION OF ONE LIFE.IT IS A STOP BEFORE THE NEXT STOP.

PERFECTION IS POSSIBLE AND INFACT IF WE SEE,EVERYTHING IS PERFECT.BECAUS E EVERYTHING IS GOVERNED BY THE PERFECT POWER GOD.EVEN WHEN THINGS SEEMS IMPERFECT THEY ARE A PART OF A COMPLETE PERFECT.WHEN YOU SEE THE COMPLETE PICTURE YOU WOULD SEE THAT THE IMPERCET WAS A PART OF A PERFECT THING.AND THE SEQUENCE OF THINGS WERE TO LEAD YOU TO A PERFECT SITUATION.

We being human beings somewhere or the other, we might have committed mistakes. Acc to me, perfectionist would be achieved by GOD and none other then HIM.Here, the context Perfection and giving the Best both are different. For instance, I can say, I have given my best at singing, But I cannot say that I am a perfect singer. But as Mr.Shaju said, as small children are compared to GOD and  I too agree  with him regarding the smile of a baby.

I declare that I am an imperfectionist.  I am a chess player.  I evaluate and analyse my position every move.  Even if my position is disadvantageous at a particular time, I would select the best option (possibly make sacrifices/play gambits to improve my position) at that time.  This has helped me.

In my view, a good manager is not a perfectionist.  The more insistance on perfection he does, his resources keep coming down.  He must get the best from assistance available to him and not keep a benchmark for assistance and drive them towards it.

Please don't confuse perfection with motivation.  While motivation inspires, insistance on perfection from others puts them down.

This however, does not discourage individuals from being perfectionists themselves.  I congratulate them.  May be, there is a piece of envy too!

Shyam I quite agree with you. A person can be perfect in some area/thing or the other but definitely not in all aspect of his or her life. I take the debate to be in a general context. I can tell you that I am perfect in my line of duties but am I perfect in my attitude, my life style, my relationships, etc.

Perfection- I agree is a relatve term which should continuosly be analysed and redefined so as to keep moving in the life. If one think that he/she has achieved the perfection then there is not a growth possible in the life making it to stanstill.

So I think an individual should always approach for the perfection, analyse himself w r t to the goal set , redefine the perfection level and again to do the work in this direction. So perfection is a never ending process
