No, that isn't so. They are largely the same. Even in IT services, innovation is key. Clients in services, need work for their USP, they need innovation and thats the reason they outsource. Product development requires good analytical, better goal setting and management aptitude from product managers. You need good people close to you to work on your USP for your product. Thats the only thing different.

Dear Ms Pooja,

I support that your view is correct. Recruitment of IT software people are to be having innovative and analytical for product development. But those recruited for services are to be fundamentally strong, tech-savvy, and trouble-shooters. They must be Hardware experts. But product development people  need not be tech., even arts graduates with little working knowledge in systems can do wonders in developing new products. I hope, senior HR gentlemen will accept my points.

On a broader aspect because for development apart from technical expertise one have to be innovative & analytical where in IT services consists of different aspect like maintenance, Technical support where problem solving skills are more required.

In my opinion Innovation is the key word for hiring in IT product development companies. As far as IT services , it is bulk hiring and quality of hire is compromised.
