Well Mr.Deepak Dixt, you have started a good debate.

India is going to face serious energy challenges in the coming decades. The draft law prepared by the World Institute of Sustainable Energy[WISE] a Pune based non-profit, non-governmental institute has drafted a model act and charts a road map for energy independence. Mr.G.M.Pillai, the Founder Director General, Wise, has submitted the Draft Act to the Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India. The WISE which has been working for a transition to a green, clean, and sustainable energy sector in the country, has already declared 2007 as the year of the Renewable Energy Law for India.

The former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam stressed the need for energy security as a transition to total Energy Independence. Besides energy independence, the devastating impact of climate change has become an issue of critical importance. Energy production using fossil fuels is the major contributor to green house gas emission. Hence transition to a low carbon energy economy is the real solution for mitigating the impact of climate change.

According to Mr.Pillai, India has huge potential for producing electricity from renewable sources. The solution lies in effecting an accelerated transition to a low carbon energy economy, which means large scale development of renewable energy. The financial implication of large scale imports of oil, gas, and coal would destroy our economy and necessitates strategies to move towards energy autonomy or independence.

Hi deepak.......apart from renewable energy I would say nuclear energy will help to, come out of the power crisis. One of the most significant benefits of nuclear energy is that nuclear plants would produce energy even after coal and oil become scarce. Earth has limited supply of coal and oil. And renewable energy are also difficult to adopt and cost involved is more. Thus, nuclear plants play a major role of in energy production.

Thanks...

Definetely renewable energy is the solution for our power crisis because it is verdant, green and un-tapped as yet. Even though it is costly to set-up one such project, there is plenty of funding available and the per unit cost of electricity generated is quite low.

Well Mr.Vineet, No one is against Nuclear Energy but the project cost involved is very high while comparing to the output ie the energy to be generated. Moreover it will increase more dependency on nuclear supply countries. In case they are not cooperating in supply due to international political level, we have to suffer heavily. One can not forget the radiation also that will emanate due to technical problems that may lead to devastation to man kind. Of course I am not a pessimistic. Nuclear power station is not purely for the purpose of energy generation, but also for defense related.

When we opt for spending so much of funds on nuclear power, some portion can be allocated for the generation of renewable energy which is free from other pollutions and will not affect the atmosphere. Hence, massive scale up of small scale renewable energy is possible with the participation of government or private sector or with joint venture between govt. & private as successful business model.

Sure, it is a solution but not the only.

Looking at our need and availability Gap, the time demands a revolution in this sector.

Yet the speed of action and interest, on such and similar other subjects in the quarters that matter puts a serious question mark on our WILL and INTENT of even wanting a solution.

With a race for acquiring generators churning tonnes of smoke choking most cities and almost everyone encouraging similar short run solutions.

All cited above and in discussion appears "living on hopes alone".

Yes,But Depending upon implimentation of Technologies Because as far as resourses are consern India is having sunlight whole year,Also wind flow,no.of river.

renewable energy like solar , wind and hydro, are needed to replace the huge demands to fossil fuels, and produce NO CO2 emissions.

Our project , like Total Power, delivers options to any group in India ......

Even govt. ha realised the importance  of renewable energy and that can be seen frm the Budget 2010 whr Mr. Mukherjee has mentioned to set up National clean energy fund, 61% of the overall budget is for Renewables only.

Here I also want bring into your kind consideration that Importance of Renewables energy can also be seen by the fact that a new company called Nisarg Energy has entered into Renewables, planning to set up 1MW waste to energy plant, where they will be collecting waste food from Hotels, restraunts etc .

I am fully agree with Mr.Pranav..Since in my view the nuclear energy based power plant's contribution can not full fill our needs .So from Environmental security we should think to develove few other renewable energy resourses, which are Environment friendly as well as a good option for utilizing our waste (specialy for Biomass/Biogas Plants). The by product of Biogas plants can also provide us organic fertilizers which again helps us for good crop production instead of using inorganic fertilizers which are more hazardious to human health.

But no doubt its contribution towards our electricity need will be very less.

So from my side we can pramote such Small Power units in our country as well like Europian countries..Which is not bad at all!!!

I my view Renewable energy contributions can fulfill our requirements in rural areas & for individual households or industries by developing some small capacity Biogas / Biomass Power plants & some solar & wind power plants also in some specific areas of India.

Hi Vineet, I agree with you in this regard non-conventional energy is one of the altrnative to our power problems.

I agree with Mr.Vineet. Keeping in mind the rate of Technological Development in our country, it will take many years for us to harness renewable energy sources to their atmost efficieny.....this work is extensively carried out by leading Indian Institutes and many R&D Organisations across the Nation....(Currently, there are many Technologies under development that shall help to generated energy even at Household level)

Since we are fortunate to strike the Nuclear deal, I feel that we need to kick start Nuclear energy generation process at the earliest and other renewable energy sources will consequently support to decrease Energy Crisis of the Nation as soon as the commercialization of that technology shall take place...

I feel it is not the source of energy, renewable/nuclear etc. but cutting down on demand of energy which is going to sustain the planet. Some of the questions which need pondering are (a) Is renewable energy not using components which are detrimental to environment as waste? (b) Are we not wasting energy to the tune of 35 - 40 % in many sectors? I think soon the way disposal of mobiles has started becoming a issue, many new issues will crop up with all sort of energy consumption.
