Today everyone is talking about the Retail boom and reports also say that the last months sales is unusually high. With new government taking its position retail industry may see a FDI interference. But all this is good for the employers or the customers?

Who will benefit out of this, are all these reforms good for the consumers or employer.?

I BELIEVE NEITHER EMPLOYERS NOR CUSTOMERS IN THE LONG RUN

No. of Retail outlets Between 1981-99 in United Kingdom came down from 56862  to  25800.Between 1970-80 in Europe about 4 lakhs  Retail shops were closed iN  THAILAND Big companies have seen growth of 40%.

There was adverse impact on 60000 small shopkeepers.

ULTIMATELY IT IS THE BIG PLAYERS

its certainly consumers to be benefitted as it will enhance competition amongst the players, thereby price cuts

and more of discounts & offers. at the same time we all will see a kind of revolution for private labels so as to maintain the overall margin of the sbus.

Employers!!

They get the shop floor, they get to employ and train local talent which makes them a brand that locals are emotional with and at the same time when the brand or chain does any activity that creates a stir within the community the entire community benefits!!

Actually there is no debate here.. I feel that both the consumers and employers get to eat the cake and enjoy the cherry!

More retail organization, more fight for the consumers, more offers for consumers.

i agree with sudhakar here...the boom in retail will help employment also, but more so it helps the consumers as there are so many in the line to open up their business in India, so one can see many discounts and price cuts and consumers enjoying global brands at affordable prices....

I feel it is good for consumers, because more is the competition better options are available with the consumers. There may be a chance of drip in prices also. On the other hand it might not be that beneficial for the employers . i.e., retail industry people because they will have to give a tough fight to the competitors from India as well as from outside if FDI bill is passed.
