Retirement is inevitable for a person who enters a job at a certain age. As long as you can perform better for the organisation, you can continue to work. He/she may retire at a certain age from the organisation and can take reemployment somewhere else, if he/she has the ability to perform.

Salaried persons except a few do not earn a fortune to last for a lifetime. With the rising cost of living, imposition of income tax on all savings, separation of children due to social or financial reasons and several other socio-economic factors people have to depend on their own earnings in the last phase of life. The expenses also rise due to increase in medical bills, requirement of servants, chauffeurs, increase in house, water electricity taxes and cannot be met with the available resources. In addition the talent, expertise, knowledge and experience goes waste and this makes most persons unhappy. These factors prompt people to continue working as long as possible.

After a certain age, if a person has the ability to perform better, he should be conferred with Emeritus status and allow the others to occupy the formal position. Unless we do that, no able person will get a chance to perch on top! Calculate the expenditure on health care and medical aid the people on top is incurring, you may find a whopping figure. Then its a mockery!

Yes age should never be the creteria for retirement. Also retirement age should never be based on the will of a person to retire. people and the knowledge & experience they get during their life time is not just their own assets, it is also nationas wealth, since Nations capital is spent during the course of individuals life time. Therefore it is the duty of an ondividual to work till he is capable of so that his experience is fully utilised by the country. Also when a peson is incapacitated early it is the duty of the Nation to take care of him and not just the organization where he is employed. Ideally the concept should be based on "every individual is Nations wealth and Capital and we are human beings and not Machines".

Age should never be a criteria for retirement. It should be performance based and a person should take retirement only when his performance is affected due to his age. In fact, retirement age for office goers has been fixed based on assumption that at this particular age performance gets affected in majority cases. But this is an old assumption. It is not correct in present days situation when people are healthy and they can really perform even up to 85 or, 90 years of age.

Sir you are right that age should not be the criteria for retirement but choice of individual is not the ultimate because some aged person wants to work more but they are not able to fulfill the requirements. i mean we should not take decision on both age factor and individual's willingness but we should consider that is he or she can perform better then the coming generation or coming newer one.

i completely agree with shweta. after 60 years still intrested in money for family? man is not born only to nourish his family. take retirement and try to realize who you are? from where you had come? & where you will go after death
