Is solar eclipse a matter of science or faith?

Not at all a debatable question , The solar System is working and all the strars are moving at their own speed. If somebody comes in your way, the shadow is produced, Same is the theory behind, except that Rays are being immitated

I support what U have posted in ur starting remarks.

Surprised when one  I says ' it is pure science" and  ... then say BUT ( what is 'but' .. either yes or no : may there be anything in between ? ).

And another question : why 'Astronomy" and 'astrology" is being given a same platform ? It is never same ... !!

And .. India, where we live, was once famous for its "Black Magic" .. !! After many success in science, technology, medicine and so many fields, we remain almost the same in core of our minds .. !! One may not really understand ... !!

It is pure science.

The planets, their movements, orbits and time taken are all decided. Their behaviour is what has been observed and written and taught in school. So if we are talking about the phenomenon, its science. But if we are talking about it vis-a-vis the effects on us as a human race on earth... its based on science and faith!!

Astrologers have attached certain happenings in our lives based on the movements of certain strong influential planets like moon, mercury, venus, mars, jupiter and saturn. These are planets that have strong influences on earth when they are in certain positions to it and with certain planets that have interjections during their orbital movement around the sun. These astrologers must have founf a common phenomenon that occurs when these planets are in a certain position related to each other and it has repeated with a specific time difference which led them to believe in the occurence. Hence the predictions were made. And when these predictions reached the common man, it became FAITH!!

But as you may have understood, this FAITH is based on the science of these planets and their movemnets!! Very interesting debate!!

In my opinion its a 70% science and 30% faith.

Daily we pray god, why? in our gods  sun, moon and earth are also gods. If we believe god, then we should believe in faith.

But, our scientists are done lot of work, they discovered solar system, they proved that sun is one of the star, and earth is one of the planet and moon is the the subplanet of earth.

So Solar eclipse is a science or faith is depends on the individul, if believe in god, its faith, and if believe in science then its science.

Well Science is a proven matter. Faith is belief and and awaiting scientific proof. For example the world believe that God created Man and universe. I believe Man created god and universe Because God has born in man's mind. When the first scientist said earth is round or global he was executed by the then church. but later it is proven. Well most of the scientific proofs are research based on faiths and oral teaching by generations. Many thousand years before the distance between earth and other planets were scientifically calculated or proven, our saints were aware of it and orally taught the generations. Hence the science and faith are inter-linked and not parable. Well I believe all the planetary activities are influencing the Man and universe. The early findings of the non proven science is the faith of the man about the eclipse. Well the early Vasthu silpa recommends the kitchen should be at east of the building. We have now proved that the first rays of the sun falling on the earth can destroy the bacterias affecting the food stuff or and health. A faith generated from this theory could be the reason many people not eating when the eclipse going on or destroy the cooked food available at eclipse period.We can find justification for every faith for scientific proofs. So the Pure Proven science is invented from a faith. Hence let us find the clues from faith to find pure proven science.           

The occurance of the eclipse is nothing but pure science since all the planets are moving in their designated orbits and geometry dictates their overlapping etc.

Now, if one believes in astrology, then each planet has a role to play in thier lives. Thus when a rare event occurs they tend to believe that this 'special' event will have an effect on them.

Speaking of 'Faith' reminds me of a short story - a tightrope walker performed the act between the 20th stories of two buildings. The audience applauded his act. When he asked them if they believed in him, all answered in the affirmative. When he asked for a volunteer to be on his shoulders when he again performed, there were none. Thats the difference in Faith. We follow without questions.    

Just as "Saptrishis" can help us find our position any time and cannot change our position, the position of planets at any time 'may' indicate our destiny (if at all), but definitely they cannot influence that. Thus it is futile to try to "please" them.

I agree with manish there is a power ruling this world.Today  science lets us explore this world practically & understand it in better way so that we can live in it by enjoying it rather than getting scared.This eclipse was a treat to watch someting phenomenal which we  might not be able to view again in lifetime.Faith is required to live in this world but when you start beliving things blindly it effects nobody else but you.

Though the mechanics of the eclipse are pure science, we must not forget the fact that natural phenomena still awaken primal instincts and fears, as well as superstitions, in many people.

More than science vs. faith, there is another element, psychology.

Happening of Solar Eclipse is a science as every object in space are in certain direction at certain space and move at a specific speed in which planets face such eclipse while

THE REASON FOR ECLIPSE IS FAITH Bcoz THE POWER AND FORCE WHICH DERIVES THIS NATURE IS CONTRLLOD BY GOD. SOMEONE IS RULLING THE UNIVERSE BY HIS IMMENSE POWER OTHERWISE HOWCOME WITHOUT ANYTHING - THE UNIVERSE MOVE - WHY?  THEIR IS NO END TO THIS QUESTION 

That's why i voted for FAITH and supported Science...
