TATA
NANO is not relevant to INDIA. Just check out the Infrastructure and car segment. The car segment is growing at a faster rate than the infrastructure in INDIA. With this pace NANO will create a huge traffic as its an economy car and we all have accepted it.
TATA NANO is only relevant when in INDIA if infrastructure is worth/better.

TATA NANO the world lowest price car had a news/ buzz all over the world when its was announced.
TATA
NANO, is ofcourse relevant to India as majority of population want to convert from two wheelers to four wheelers but the price made them not to achieve their dream. Ratan Tata kept up his promise to come up with a car of 1lakh, the people's car. And I appreciate it.
Its a dream come true of the majority of the population. But the infrastructure is going be the biggest problem here in INDIA when NANO will be owned by many.

Hi, As product innovation it's good product for international market thus very important for India's achivement but, Indians are already creating problem due to high demand of costly energy sources (OIL) by middle class depending on more on Personal transport (2 Wheeler and 4 Wheeler) rather than demanding his rights for paying tax and not getting PUBLIC trasnport from Govt. NANO is good product for countires like Malaysia, Thiland, Indonesia, bangaldesh apart from UK and US markets as NANO covers the Left SPECTRUM of demand which is typically qualified as LOW ENERGY CONSUPTION by UK and US market as it's better care than GAS GUZZLERS like NISSAN etc. but, RIGHT SPECTURM of DEMAND like Indonesia which uses Baja Auto or low car penetration .. NANO can cross sell as product for AUTO as well as low cost CAR. Indians are growing in very small geography at higher rate might cross CHINA very SOON and such low cost car is HAZARDIUS to enviornmwent and ENERGY BILL of INDIA.

Dear Jayagopal, The point is well taken, the time is ripe to start a debate & involve the policy makers to understand the gravity of the situation we are facing today or the environmental impact the number of small vehicles to make. We should now create a forum, possibly with Dr Pachauri, the Noble Lauriate, to spread awareness for the urgent planning of mass transport system like the Delhi metro, or other ways so as to minimise individual travel. Further a lady of the house or the kid going to school would always be safe in a group of fellow commuters eg shared cars etc. than a single car among the most vicious of traffics in the world. Regarding the export of Nano---You have a proud Indian standing with you. Cheers & Regards Ajay

The lack of infra, especially in the surface transport is the biggest hurdle to smooth passage of the swarm of Nanos going to affect the already sick state of road affairs. Secondly, the need for us to be more self reliant towards our energy requirements as also to be more environment sensitive the Nano is going to create more chaos than empowerment of the middle class. Thirdly, as I've come accross people taking some bizarre recommendations as a useful car for the school going Scooty riding studentsas also to be among the favorite for the servants of the affluent. Lets wait in astonishment for this swarm attack, as the roads would be the biggest looser both for driving as well as parking as the middle class has less or no parking affordability. Amen!!

India roads are very traffic, we observe most of the cities are not proper planogram........................ In countries like Singapore there are very good systems in place to control the car population on the road.......and of course they have a very good MRT in place........but still they are very particular that they dont want crowded roads and traffic jams..... There is a severe mismatch between the ratio of road length to the vehicle population....although the road widening and new bypasses are being created, this requires time and is no match for the pace of production of new cars that are being added to the roads.....

I dont' think Tata Nano is anyways relevant and helpful for India for many reasons, some are mentioned below. 1. Think about the number of cars already on roads, and with the floatation of the cheaper car in the market, the replacement of 2 wheelers will be done and the roads will be flooded with the cars and cars and just cars. 2. The problem of fuel, especially petrol in India is prevelant for long and with the recent price turmoil the situation has become worse. Hence companies are introducing hybrid cars and Tata being a low budget car cant' really be converted into hybrid status hence this way or that way the demand for it wil be lost. 3.The conditions of the Indian roads are not apt for the vehicles like Nano because the tyre quality and size wil not be able to bear the pressures. 4.With the current state of the Traffic Laws in India the the driving sense of the people, the number of accidents in India are rising , and having fibre/plastic body all over is not going to make it a safer vehicle at all to board on. what do you guys think on it..??

I think with the state of Indian roads Tata's Nano is a sure receipe for disaster....wonder when there are numerous frivilous Public interest litigations why nobody has seriously opposed this move to introduce Nano into indian roads....not even the media which has today done so much to awaken public awareness and support to many pressing and touching issues...

Dear All, As any car is hazardous to the environment, we should go back to the bullock-cart age. P.S.- I think one should clarify before posting any argument in this debate whether he/she owns a car or not. It helps in judging the perspective of the person. I'll start with myself I'm not a four-wheeler owner. Vinod

Tata's Nano is relevant to India, as it will cater to the dreams of the middle and lower sect of segmentation, who thrive for a car..We need to analyse the pollution level and technical aspects of the car..If they meet the desired requirements, why not.. Wishes, Sarada

We cant argue about a Dream Car just because of Land Acquisition and Pooled Service Factors. As a growing economy, India is in desperate need of low cost products that is in sync with economy. If we can to leave aside economic growth and concentrate on our emotions and political burgen - I ask back the question "Does India need electricity?"

Ajay, please remember the condition of the roads are already pitiable and gone. Addition of Nano's are not going to worsen an already worse situation. And yes you were right in calling the coming of the Nano as an empowerment of the middle class. It indeed is, imagine otherwise the plight of office going women, college girls and school kids on our public transport where they are groped and felt by all and sundry. Ask your wife or daugther (if they use public transport) and they will tell you. And dont forget the biggest criminals of them all - the autorickshaw drivers - all of us are at their mercy. So definitely the Nano is a gift to the booming middle class who for long have been neglected despite being the biggest consumer block and highest tax paying public. Forget who will end up using it in the end, be it the servant or the kid. One needs to regulate these things at home and if you can afford to have your servant go around in a NANO, why not? I only agree with one point in the whole debate - environment friendliness but there again if not for the nano, there will be another vehicle out to pollute. I agree with Vinod when he says, replacing all the obnoxious and smoke belching, rattling vehicles on our roads would easily solve this problem. We need to have a cap on the ownership of vehicles to a maximum of 5 yrs like in the gulf countries - it will solve two problems - reduce the number of vehicles and thereby the poluution too.

In countries like Singapore, one is not allowed to drive old and outdated cars, just by replacing the outdated noxious fumes belching vehicles in the Indian roads a major portion of the air pollution would be taken care of. As far as roads are concerned - some roads, streets, shopping destinations can be earmarked as No Vehicle zone, Park n ride (public electricity vehicle) facility can be offered.

First of all let me appeal to all you gents and ladies out there on too step to have a sense of national pride. TATA's NANO is an indian dream and with this we are slowly into the big league. What the opponents ofr the project are saying is absolutely correct - bad road, traffic rules, infrastructure problems etc. are all there but like Mallikarjun rightly points out - why should Ratan Tata bother about all this. see it from his perspective of a business man and he is right. See it positively from our side - use this as an excuse to put pressure on the government. In fact go one step further and be proactive - write to Ratan Tata to make him roll out a hybrid version or an electric version so at least that would take care of the fuel and pollution problems. We should be supportive of things like this and only then as a nation can we progress. We can never reach where china is today if we dont look at positive side of an issue and gain from it. Like i said use this as an excuse to put pressure on the govt. for better infrastructure. Imagine how many middle income householders dream is going to be fullfilled because of the NANO. This has even prompted a manufacturer of two wheelers like Bajaj to get into research to roll out a new car to compete. This is only going to get better and ultimately we are going to be the gainers as automobiles would become cheaper. What maruti started some years back is taking a final shape today. Plus dont forget it is our own and imagine the name we would get in the international arena when this car is exported to poorer african and asian countries not to count the foreign exchange.

We should congratulate Mr.Ratan Tata for having such gud idea and getting it developed. He has made his dream come true. Similarly with his dream many Indians are also making their comes true by owning Nano. If there is traffic congensition it is not the problem of Mr. Tata or the buyers of the car, it is for the govt to give good motrable roads. If they cannot give, then we should not elect them by doing this we will be teaching a lesson. In our country the polices are decided by the top class decides the things and the middle class and people like you and me only discuss and the poor decide i.e they vote and they get easily carried away by people who give them money /liquor.
